Question about ASUS Eee PC 900 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Eee PC 900 and within the first couple of weeks it caught a virus. I had a friend of mine fix it. Now, months later, I find that when turning my laptop on, it will first load the Asus Eee Pc screen, then windows pops with the "we apologize for the inconvenience..." screen and choose "last known good configuration" then windows appears, then a blue screen appears and is only up for a brief moment, too brief for me to even read the text. then the process starts all over again. is this windows crashing? and what are the steps I need to take in fixing it?

Yes it sounds like windows is crashing. If need be you may need to hook up an external cd rom or windows loaded onto a flash drive to reinstall windows entirely. If you need further assistance let me know.
Thank you,

You can use web cam Drivers CD to restore the cam drivers. In case you dont have the drivers CD, you may download the drivers from the internet. Restoring/ downloading the web cam drivers depends upon the make/ model of web cam and the Operating System you have on your PC. Let me know the make/ model and Operating System Detail and I'll try to search for the drivers.
Secondly, almost any good quality USB cam compatible with you Operating System (e.g. Windows XP) can be used.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Good Luck!

Unable to reboot my netbook to remove a virus and to be able to download an antivirus on internet i have a Asus eee pc 900 with Windows XP and no cd rom

Download anti-virus tools to a USB memory-stick, using a "trusted" computer, and then connect the memory-stick to your computer. Restart your computer, and choose Safe Mode. You'll be able to access the files on the memory-stick.

My asus eee pc may have a virus

Are you on Linux or Windows XP? Given that Linux is nowhere near as bad as XP for viruses, I'll assume XP.

If on Windows, keep pressing F8 on Post (machine Switch on).
From the menu of options, select 'Safe Mode' - this is a mode that deactivates all start up programs and drivers.

From within here run a virus AND spyware scan.

You can get free Anti-virus from www.MajorGeeks.com
Use AVG Free Adition or Aviva (aka Antivir)

For Spyware, use Spybot

You will probably need to download on another computer.
