Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

The fan for my air conditioner will not turn. When we cut the system on it makes a humming sound and the light go dim for just a moment and this goes on repeatedly. No heat or air. We have a dual system. One outside and the other is in the attic. Can you help. I am on a fixed income at this time and no money for a repair man.

A/C runs perfectly for the first five min, then you hear sound BUT no air no cooling and occasional HISS (like something is leaking!)

If the humming noise is coming from the attic it would indicate that the blower motor on the air handler is trying to start but the rotor is locked.

If the humming noise is coming from the outside unit and the fan runs but the compressor does not your compressor has a locked rotor.

If the blower motor is the problem the outside unit should still start as normal but you would have no cooling due to no air movement.

In ether case it sounds like you need to call a service tech to diagnose your system.

I need help with a buzzing sound in my air conditioner.

It is probably the compressor humming. They can make some funny noises especially on start for a while. If the unit is not cooling it may be the start capacitor or the comressor may be locked up.

The humming noise and dimming of the lights is an indication something in the outdoor unit is locked up or has failed.

Check the capacitor as it may have gone bad. If the capacitor is good, then you either have a failed motor, a failed compressor, or both.

My coleman mah 3 roof top will not blowon fan side

Sounds like you have either a bad fan motor or a bad fan motor capacitor. When you turn the unit on with the fan not working, the compressor (the humming noise) runs and gets real hot real quick resulting in the compressor cutting off ( the nothing after) on it's inside high temp switch. This is what the compressor is designed to do so that when this happens, it does not burn the compressor out. Replace you fan capacitor, give the compressor an hour to cool, then try it. In most cases and if I'm correct, the unit will run just like you want it to. Good luck.

Sounds like a bad start run capacitor. The exhaust fan motor may be bad too. Be careful, this unit delivers 220volts of electricity.
