The microphone may not be configured properly in Skype.
If the person cannot hear you then, either your microphonedriver not installed or not working OR the microphone is not configured inSkype.
To test your microphone then click on Start - All Programs - Accessories -Entertainment - Sound recorder. Then record your voice and then play it back.If this is OK then the microphone need to be configured in Skype.
To configure the microphone - Open Skype - Tools - Options -Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.

When you say headphones do you mean the music headphones, like speakers, because they go in the headphone jack in the computer while microphones go in the microphone jack. The microphone is normally a pink color and the headphone jack is normally green. If you already knew this try wiggling the microphone to see if there is a brake in the wire, if that dose not make it fissile in and out then its something wrong with the microphone its self and should be replaced

Phantom Power (or an internal battery) is needed to operate 'Condenser' type microphones.
The E835S from Sennheiser is a 'dynamic' microphone and, as such, does not require any power source for it to operate.
If you are using several different types of microphone together (dynamic and condenser) it should be quite safe to have phantom power on - it won't cause any damage to the Sennheiser.
However 'ribbon' microphones will be destroyed by phantom power

1-adjust the overall volume by pressing fn+f 5 hotkeys
2-adjust sliding mixer controls by doubleclicking the speaker icon
3-disconnect the headphone jack to enable check of internel speaker.4-confirm that microphone plug is proper connected to mono mic jack.5-confirm that microphone is selected as recording source in control panel----multimedia and recording level is adjusted.
