Question about Dell Dimension B110 PC Desktop

1 Answer

I have a Dell Dimension B110 and it only detects 256 mb. I have installed a WD 500GB hard drive and installed 2 - 1 GB RAM and still nothing. I think I need to change the BIOS but don't know how.

Hello,

Yes, you need to change your bios setting. The best thing to do is the reset the BIOS to default and check your system after the reboot. Good Luck

I cant find the default/reset for the bios in the system start up. I don't have an OS installed yet(trying to get windows 7) so i didn't know if that makes a difference or not.

    jtwcnr,

Sorry it took so long to respond. I have tried finding info about your BIOS setting and have not had any luck. (Even from Dell) Did you have an os on the pc before? I did notice that the spec for your pc hold a max of 2GB RAM. The other thing is up to 64MB of RAM will go to your video card.

If you able to see your memory specs in the BIOS setting, (under Memory Information tab/section, it should let you configure speed of your memory. I will continue searching for reset info about the BIOS. Please update if you run into further issues.

    Best Regard,

Where is the sound card located in a dell dimension 1100?

The sound is integrated onto the motherboard in this model, it isn't a separate card.

Replacing RAM in Dell Dimension 3000

Upgrading RAM will not affect your files. Just make sure you upgrade with compatible RAM & that you install it in pairs. So if you want 2 GB then you would want to be 2 x 1 GB RAM chips. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

I replaced a bad 120 gb hard drive with a WD 500gb sata hard drive. Installation went fine, however I am having trouble with the reinstall of the XP system. It freezes up at the point where it asks if you...

First, I would remove the 120 from the system during installation. If possible, use a Windows XP disc w/ SP2 to speed up installation of the OS. Plus SP2 handles a maximum disk size error which limits you maximum partition size. (Under SP1 I think the largest partition can be 137 MB)
I would recommend using NTFS format for the hard drive.
Once it is installed, you can always re-connect it to simplify the installation.
If it's still freezing, check the disc for damage or defects.
