MICROWAVE SHOWS ALL 88:88'S

My power went out yesterday while at work. Now all the will display is 88:88. I have tried to reset the breaker and unplug the unit. The light and fan are working for the range below and the light works when I open the door to the microwave but I cannot get the clock to reset or get the power to come on to cook anything.

Thanks

Joe

Since you tried a reset and the keys won't respond, you probably have a problem on your control board or the keypad has failed.

We regularly repair these for customers nationwide with our guaranteed $39.95 service.

If you have a keypad and you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us replace the keypad for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Feel free to contact me directly for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Sharp R-9H84B-display black, cleared display shows "Conv Mix, 88:88 Auto". Short time all dark again. Hit clear happen 2 times then, all dark, no power, can't clear won't start, nothing works.

I would suggest pulling the control board out and looking on the foil side (opposite the component side) for "ring cracks," most likely on the low voltage transformer's connections.

The board may have the screen-printed reference designator "T1" near the low voltage transformer.

Also be sure the fuse is not easy to turn with your fingertips when it is in the holder. If it is, the fuse holder is too loose and must be replaced (not just squeezed with pliers).

You can order a fuse holder, part number WB06X10034 for $6.49 (subject to change) from the Pros here.

If you have any keypad issues, please note that the membrane keypads for this model have long been discontinued.

FixYa does not directly notify us experts of responses, so if you have other questions, please contact me directly.

Unit went dead. No fan, display, light, oven. Is there an internal fuse or reset?

There is an internal fuse. Be careful high voltages present even if the microwave is unpluged.

Good luck

Our home lost power yesterday, now microwave will not work. Clock is working but it's like the panel is locked. Turned off breaker to try to reset and now on display it indicates 8-:44. Suggestions?

You should be sure that you leave the breaker off for about 15-30 seconds when doing a reset.

If it still won't work right, you either have a defective board or a shorting keypad.

Try the rest several times and note whether the display comes up that same way every time or what.

We can help you with a repair either way.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

This can happen when there is a power failure. Usually there is a PF in the display but you can also get 88:88

Try this first: Press stop / pause or cancel then clock and try and set the time. If at that time you do not get any beeps your control board most likely has a problem. To dig deeper if you wish to have more assistance I need your complete model number to possibly troubleshoot.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Hi cschnur,
It seems that you might need to replace circuit board.
All the above mentioned conditions refers to a faulty circuit board. You might have blown few Ic's.
Take a voltmeter, check the continuity. If you are aware of the Ic's, replace them.
Unless, look for a tech, a used board ( On http;//www.ebay.com ) or purchase a new one.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Samsung MU3250W Shut down

It could have been steam or humidity.

If this is an over the range model, be sure you always use the hood vent exhaust fan when you're cooking on the stove top.

Whether it's a counter top or over the range top, always be aware that the cooling fan is running when it's cooking.

When in doubt feel for air flow through the vents.

Good luck.

Flashing 88:88 display - no keypad response - no light

Hello,

I’ve read through your problem in an attempt to find a solution to my own similar issue with my microwave oven. Other solutions (like unplug appliance overnight and reconnect to power source the next morning) did not work for my appliance.

Just as I was about to call it quits and go out to purchase a new microwave; I gave it one last try. This time, instead of pressing any and every single button on the keypad, I decided to press BOTH the "Stop/Clear" AND "Start" buttons AT THE SAME TIME. . . . . Voilà! This worked for me, but sadly, it's now May-2008 and I'm pretty sure you're own microwave is long gone since your posting appears to have been quite some time ago. Well, hopefully others that stumble through these pages with similar issues may find some assistance with my approach. Oh, and btw. . .I got this idea (which worked) from remembering the instructions on how to reset my cellphone. Many thanks, ~paul
