Take out your USB cord from the computer and restart the computer.
If this does not help then once again take out the cord and take out the plug of the computer after shutting it down. If this does not work either install Windows XP Service pack 2 from the following link.

How to install anything USB & "Device not recognised"

I see a lot of people are having problems with USB. USB is a wonderful standard. However it does have a habit of getting sorta tangled up, generally in the Windows hives/registry.
I am going to show you how to go about installing ANYTHING USB.
First: NEVER EVER, plug in ya USB device before ya install the Software and Drivers.
Second: After installing software & drivers etc. REBOOT.
Third: NOW, plug in your USB device, it should be detected and automatically install the drivers, OR it will ask where they are, navigate to where the files are kept, and they will install, after it has finished, REBOOT.
NOW you should be all good, and ready to use.
Now if you get at any time, "Device not recognised" first, try another USB port, if that doesn't work, & ya keep getting the message . One thing to try is to go to device manager and TOTALLY remove/uninstall & remove drivers, from ALL USB devices from device manager. then REBOOT.
When windows restarts it will re-install the USB "Layer" all again, all new. Now you can start all again as above.

How to connect to a pc

Install the software first, then connect the usb and power cables, then turn on the unit.
Here is a section of the installation manual :

Software Installation
1. Do not connect this device to computer yet.
2. Insert the utility CD into computer's optical drive, and then the installation window should
automatically appear on the screen. If the installation window doesn't show up, go to "My
Computer" and browse the CD. By executing the "index.html" file, the installation window
will appear.
3. Click on "Private Folder Manager"/ "Playlist Manager", and then follow the on screen
instructions for installation.
4. After the software had been successfully installed, see [Connecting to USB] for cable
connection.
Connecting to USB
1. Connect the plug of AC adapter to the connector marked "DC IN", plug the other end into
an electric outlet.
2. Connect the USB cable to the USB connector. Then connect the other plug to computer's
USB port.
3. Press the Power switch and then the blue LED will light up.
4. The computer will detect this device and you can start accessing the drive.

USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNISED

Be sure the problem is not from the cable, by confirming that the cable works well with another phone. If it works well on another phone, try another USB cable.
If it shows the same message, then connect the cable to a different port on the PC.
If the message still shows plug it into another system.
If it works on the other system, then the device was not recognised on the initial system because USB ports must have been faulty.
You would have to un - install, then re - install the USB drivers.
Do this by clicking 'My Computer', then 'Device Manager'. Select 'USB Ports'. Right click it and select Re - install.
But if it still does not work on another system, and then your phone's USB port might need to be changed.
Hope that helped?
Success.

HP Photosmart Wireless e-All-in-One B100 series printer won't work with USB cable. I have installed all the software from the CD but at the point where it asks you whether you want to connect it to a USB...

The problem is caused by you connecting the printer before the software asks you to.

Uninstall all HP software, restart the PC and start again. Do NOT connect the printer until the install prog tells you to.

Usb device not recognised

HI,

Is this the first time you connect your printer on that computer? This can be the USB port does not support a 2.0, or your data cable/printer cable is damage.

Hope this helps

As soon i connect k550i thru USB to PC it gives me error "one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfuntioned, and windows does not recognise it." screenshot:-

Have you installed the phone's software called the PC Suite? If not, you need to install it so that your computer can recognize your device. The cd is with the phone on the box.

Usb not recognised

Hello ak1979 ...

1. You're plugging in your Transend USB flash drive to your computer's USB port (as you've done many times successfully before with this SAME flash drive)?

2. It says "windows not recognise usb drive due to malfunction"?
a. Is that EXECTLY what the error says?
b. Is "it" an error dialog (window that pops up), or an error message from your Windows Event error logs? If a dialog, are there any pertinent error message entries in your Windows Event (System) log [Start > Run > type "eventvwr.msc" (without quotes), then "OK"]?

Try a bit of deductive troubleshooting:
  1. Restart (Reboot) your system [for a fresh start, if you will].
  2. Try plugging in your USB flash drive again, but in a DIFFERENT USB port.
  3. Try plugging in ANY OTHER "known good" USB device into the same USB port(s) used thus far that failed.
NOTE: If you EVER get any indication Windows recognizes the flash drive (like no error msg, or it shows in "My Computer"), IMMEDIATELY perform a "Check Disk" on it:
  1. Start > Run... > type "cmd" (without quotes), then "OK".
  2. Type "chkdsk DRIVE_LTR: /f" (without quotes), then hit "Enter" [where DRIVE_LTR is the drive letter of your USB drive]. EXAMPLE: chkdsk E: /f
Good luck, and please post back:
  • to provide any corrections/updates/clarifications.
  • if you have any further questions.
  • to let me know how things work out.

ICR-B130 Handheld Digital Recorder

Ha this is a greatly contested two posiblities.

1/ Are you on a business network? The most common reason for this error is because the user has mapped network drives on low drive letters e.g. mapped drives on E F G H I etc. When you connect recorder windows trys to assign the physically available drive letter. However that drive is being used by a mapped network drive so windows simply doesnt recognise the newly attched device hence the sanyo software not recognising the device.

2/ Some Dell PC's struggle to supply enough power to all USB ports so try connecting to the back of the PC or removing some USB devices and reconnect the B130.

This error cannot be produced without a recorder being connect so it recognised to a point just. Just not correctly.
