Hold down the power for about 30 seconds or more and the computer should shut down, if not remove the battery from the back of the laptop and then replace after 30 seconds and reboot the mechine.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Acer stuck on preparing to stand by

I would force power off, (press and hold down the power button) then start up windows and download any updates that are missing and then use the Shut Down command instead of the Stand By/Sleep mode.

Computer frozen startup

Did you try to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete?
I think you can turn it off in the Bios Menu (F12 or F10 almost right after you turn on the pc)

My computer is frozen on preparing for stand by. Wat should I do? The mouse works. I have tried pressing and holding down the power button Have also used ctrl alt del and ctrl alt esc all at once

Hold the power button down for more than 5 seconds and this will force the computer to shut down, if that fails, which it shouldn't, but if it does as much as i don't want to recommend this, unplug it, this will ensure the shutdown. Also get some sort of antivirus to check and see if there is anything impeding the standby, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials paired up with Malware Bytes to ensure no viruses eek there way through your system.

Standby mode is not working..

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Initially, would suggest going into the CMOS/BIOS setup and restoring all configurations/settings back to default. Should this be not corrective, try verifying settings inside the Properties box of the Power Options inside Control Panel.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Locked up

Hi,

Try removing the battery, then hold down the power button for 10secs and then put the battery back in, then connect the power cord back up and switch it on.

Once you get back to the desktop run a test on the HDD.

Cheers
