My Polaris 3900 Sport Pool Cleaner's doing tight circles in the pool because the single left-side wheel is not turning at all, while the 2 right wheels are turning normally. How do I fix it?

I had a similar issue. When I lifted the unit out of the water while it was operating only the single wheel was rotating. I turned it off and removed the bag and hose. I flipped it over on a workbench and unscrewed the three recessing screws securing the base plate. Once the plate was removed I noticed the metal chain driving the two wheels had come off on the far side of the inner sprocket. I worked the chain back onto the sprocket and tested it by rotating the single wheel and verifying the other two wheels rotated. After reassembly I put the unit back in the pool and it drove straight and high on the sides. Hope this helps someone :-)

Thanks Mike! I had exactly the same problem. One wheel turning, the other two not and the Polaris going in wide circles. I looked in the manual and saw adjusting the spray, checking floats, etc. but this was the real answer. Screw driver and ice pick and I had the drive chain back on the middle sprocket and it was running smoothly....10 minute fix at most and save me a $100 service charge!

Ditto to the previous post - It took a total of 5 minutes with my phillips screwdriver and a yarn needle. Probably could have used a skinny flat bladed screwdriver as well. Popped the chain back on track and bingo, the wheels all turned together. An hour later my pool is spotless after not being cleaned for days. Thanks !

If your pool cleaners not making proper cleaning patterns on the pool floor or turning it tight circles, try checking your RPM and adjusting your thrust jets. If the RPM is higher than 32, you will need to decrease the water flow. Also, make sure that your feed hose is floating and is not becoming tangled. Finally, check the filter bag, if full it can weigh the cleaner down on one side.

My Polaris 3900 Sport is on it's side. I turn it back up on all 3 wheels and it hits the side of the pool and goes back on it's side again...going in circles.

With these automatic pool cleaners, if they are not staying firmly on the bottom of the pool, it is most likely that there is air in the appliance casing.Try submerging your cleaner. Keep the cleaner vertical while you are putting it in slowly to let the air out. Ensure the unit sinks to the bottom of the pool.

My polaris is doing circles. it appears the single wheel doesnt move like it used to

i've just discovered i have this same issue with my polaris 3900. the machine is less than 3 months old. there is a small metal "gear" in the wheel hub just behind the blue "hub cap". a single screw holds it on the axle. it appears that the gear has worn the out around the hub causing it to slip and not be able to drive the wheel.. it appears that the solution would be to buy another wheel.

It goes in circles. It just makes tight turns on the bottom of the pool.

A cleaner going in circles is an indication of a problem with the drive mechanism on the same side as the unit turns. If cleaner uses drive belts, check them for tension or wear. If direct drive, it may be either the drive linkage or a damaged/worn impeller. Unless your are confident with repairing the unit yourself, this is a job for an experienced pool equipment technician. You can still troubleshoot the problem by running the unit on its side in shallow water and observing the relative drive speeds on each side.

My polaris 3900 moves across the pool with the front wheel of the bottom, the wheel on the 1 wheel side and the back wheel are on the bottom.

Check your wheel RPM. If the pool cleaners RPM is over 32, reduce the water flow so that the cleaner makes proper contact with the pool's surface. Verify the back-up valve is cycling. Lift the valve out of
the water and watch the jet. It should come on and go off. You might also need to adjust your thrust jet if it is causing the cleaner to lean too far to one side.

Polaris 3900 is going in circles

If the cleaner is running in circles to the left the chain has come off the double side. To fix take bottom off and place chain where it is riding on the center sproket. To test turn one wheel and all wheels should turn. Also on the axel blocks the wheels are attached to can be adjusted to allow more tension on the chain.
