No Startup and Run

On my PCG-FX-120 sony vaio, the power light and drive momentarily comes on and will do that as many times as the power button is pressed but that's all it does.
Prior to this it was on and running and just died and has not come on since.
Any suggestions is appreciated.

I have the same problem, park it for about 3 months and then it will ridiculously boot right up!

I have just discovered the problem to be cooling fan related which will damage the RAM from excess heat, so be sure fan is running...

If you continue to fight it and then just see the green LED on (no light on screen-BLACK SCREEN), RAM already damaged!

It really sounds like SP3 installing was coincidental. You're not getting to the point that Windows even starts,so it becomes a hardware issue.
Sometimes laptop batteries are hidden under panels and boards you remove to get at things below.
Since you've already taken the machine apart, try it again looking under everything you remove.Remember that laptops don't necessarily use the standard size desktop battery, they're usually smaller.
Make sure Everything is plugged back in when you put it back together.
Other than that, you could very well have a bad Ram stick, try using them one at a time in the bottom slot.
A CPU failure usually allows the POST screen.

Open the case of a Sony VAIO PCG 6L7P

There are a couple removable panels on the bottom cover.Open them 1 at a time and your HDD should be in there. You'll need to unscrew the mounting bracket then pull the drive away from the attached end and then out.
Good or bad, please rate my post?

Sony pcg 9h4l motherboard issue

Hi,

Try to power off unit and remove the battery. Then press and hold power button for 30seconds.Put the battery back and turn it on. If it turns on turn it back off again and remove the battery. Connect your VAIO using the AC adapter only. If this will not resolve your issue you can check this with SONY or any certified service center.

Startup

hi,
you should have specified about your laptop. but you can try the following steps.
1. check the powercord and battery.
2. check screen brightness and contrast.
3. assuming that you login . click start-> run ..( msconfig ) -> and press ok-> in the window that appears click the startup tab. now click disable all. this will probably help..
4. or you might be running Vista in a 512 ram.
5. or you can try to insert the windows installation disk and start the laptop. and if the blue screen appears continue reinstalling the OS. this would probably help.

Sony Vaio pcg-fx140 wont boot.

Here's some interesting info for you.

Alot of the FX series Vaio's from years back started to suffer from similar power issues. They slowly get worse over time. And eventually, the thing won't run longer than a few seconds if at all.

If you remove the battery and the power cord, let it sit for a few minutes, and then plug back up, does it come on for a brief period??

The most common issue with the FX series, was the CPU daughter board. There are 11 surface mounted capacitors that need to be replaced. These would fail over time, usually due to insufficient cooling. And cause the laptop to sense a false high temp reading from the cpu. The laptop would shut off prematurely. Replacing the caps solved the problem for most. Or simply replacing the CPU daughter board.

I have repaired several of these at my shop in past years. But if you would like to research it yourself, just go to google.com and do some searching.
