Are you trying to connect to the wireless network on Windows XP.
If you are getting the error " validating identity " Then there is a problem with the wireless conenction.
You can try to add the wireless network manually.
Or if you are using the security type WEP then WPA.
then try to connect.

D-Link is a Manufacturer name for Computer Routers. I don't recall them ever having a Model "K6TN". Please Identify the Manufacturer Name of your Router and Model Number (Usually on an Identification label on the back or bottom of the device), THEN, explain the problem that you are having with the device. Thanks.

Laptop will not connect to internet via router. Will work when connected direct through a cable. Getting message 'validating identity'.

This happens when windows can't complete identifying whether you are connected to a public, private or home network. This is often the case when the router doesn't support IP6 (which virtually all home routers don't).

In most cases you can safely disable IP6. To disable see the following microsoft knowledge base article (which also has 'FixIT' scripts to make the changes for you)

Once IP6 is disabled re-join the wireless network and complete the identifying process, i.e. select home, work or public network depending on what you are connecting to.

Please take the time to rate this answer.

Many Thanks Don.

What if my wireless is locked but when i try to connect it doesn't ask for a password and just says validating identity

This issue generally occurs with Win XP computers. Here is how we fix it:

1) Connect a computer to the router with an ethernet cable
2) Open the router interface to make changes by typing in the address bar of the browser like internet explorer or mozilla firefox or safari(Mac)
3) Enter the login code as "admin"

Now to avoid validating issue, you can enable WPA-PSK security type or adding the wireless network manually will help. We will choose the 1st method to fix your problem.

4) Click on WIRELESS on the left panel
5) Select the HOME tab on the top
6) Select the authentication as WPA-PSK and make up your wireless security passphrase and confirm the same at the below given box.
7) Change the SSID to a different name(whatever you want with no spaces)

This method will also enhance the wireless security. Its an added advantage!

Kindly, revert for any clarifications...

Thanks and regards,

Hi smithcontrac,

The reason your getting that 5 to 13 letter key is that you must of set it up under WPA incription. What I would do, is log back into the router, and reset to WEP and re-enter your key to assign it correctly. And don't forget to write down what it gives you back as a new key.

Good Luck,

And don't forget to leave a rating,
