The rotator arm is constantly banging against the basket when in use. How can this be fixed?

Thanks for the info. However, this machine is only about 2 years old and I don't think the arm needs to be replaced at this time. It does not seem to stay level.

Hi.

Ensure that the arms are mounted correctly, see the diagram here.
Evantually disassemble and assemble back the arms.

Hi,
Yes that can be fixed...it is very easy to purchase a new arm a associated pieces and repair that. The pieces wear over time and this allows the arm to move around or drop down enough to start to hit things.

Check out this tip about how to but appliance parts online.

    Hi,

Unfortunately many of the parts are made of plastic and they waer out easily. often times just hanging on a piece of plastic. I agree that it should not wear out in two years but I think that you will find that the problem is that it has enough wear so that it will no longer be supported enough to stay level...

just passing on what I have found out through experience with these machines...without actually looking at yours I cannot say for sure...

Why are the items on bottom rack not being cleaned properly

If is clean dishes in the upper basket, I conclude that the pump produces enough pressure what means that the lower spray arm for some reason does not rotate and because that washing result is bad. Before washing I would check the lower spray arm rotates freely and after that open the door during washing and check if the lower spray arm rotates. Sometimes, the holes in the spray arm clog and disable turning which leads to poor washing results in the lower basket.

My dinner plate stops the arm rotating, why? model fdud4812

Both upper and lower washing arms operate on the water pressure and angle of water flowing thru them.
Pressure provided by water pump.

Just about anything that contacts the rotating arm can stop it.
Best thing to do is re-arrange items in dishwasher so that arms can spin freely.
One can always spin washing arms by hand to ensure proper clearance.

Hope this helps...

The windshield wipers bang

The grooves (or teeth) at the base of the arm could be stripped which is allowing the wiper arm to go past its normal stopping point and bang against something else. I learned this one the hard way.

Drum Tilt

Your spin basket spider arm support on the back of the spin basket is broken. The spider arms support the entire weight of the basket and insert into the tub bearing in the back of the washer. You will need to replace the spin basket (stainless steel tub) in order to fix this problem. The tub is not repairable and cannot be welded, either (I have been asked this question before). I would not recommend you use the washer any longer as it will cause further damage to the outer tub shells. If you have a repairman perform this job, it can be quite expensive (around $300, $400, perhaps higher), because of the labor involved. Some smaller appliance repair companies won't touch a job like this. However, the washer is repairable, and you can perform this yourself. If you wish to accomplish this on your own, I can give you step-by-step instructions and where to order a new tub. Let me know if you want my assistance.

Tub bangs and seems to be spinning out of round

One of the support arms on the back of the spin basket (stainless steel tub) is broken and causing it to spin in the fashion you describe. The only fix is to replace the spin basket. Using it in its current condition will cause serious damge to the outer tub shell. Let me know if you decide to replace it or need assistance locating a replacement tub. I can assist you in how to disassemble the washer and how to reinstall a new tub. Sorry...I wish this was better news.

Noisy dishwasher

This is a known issue for GE dishwashers and may be similar for other models too.  The fix is simple.  The noise is due to vibration of the arm for the middle sprayer.  Just secure it with a tie wrap or wire and the noise should be gone.

Refer to the following link for my earlier response to a similar issue which fixed the problem.

Spray arm does not move

the spray arm is moved by water spraying out of angled jets at the end of the arm. the mostly cause of no rotation is these jets being blocked - its not always obvious. remove spray arm and run water into centre hole and see if you can see anything blocking the jets

Washing Machine Suspension Problem?

smirkin, the question here is if the basket is listing against the tub or the whole tub and basket is listing. If the basket is listing and banging around it could be the drive block has worn or broken. I will attach a photo of one. If the whole tub is listing it could be a spring that broke. You can remove the front panel of the washer by pressing in on the two clips on each side of the washer top, The front panel should drop and pull out. You can see if any of the suspension sprins broke. The drive block is located under the basket. The agitator and basket have to be removed to change it out. Take a look at the attachments...Catriver..post back
