Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router
it seems that my laptop c767tu is ahving a problem connecting to netgear wireless router. my laptop can detect the wireless connection but i cant log in even though my connection is "unsecured" (no password). im running windows vista on my laptop. the wireless router is wired on my desktop running windows xp.
hope you could help me with this.
thanks in advance.
Sometimes firewalls on your computers can cause connection issues. I had the same problem with my home network. I had norton internet security 2008 on both systems, but the firewall settings on both computers had to be adjusted to allow the computers to talk. If you have different brand firewalls on each computer, you should consider to switching one of the computers so that it matches the other.
Another thing you want to do is log into the router's web utility and check to see if the wireless settings are blocking wireless connections in some way. You also want to make sure the ssid broadcast is enabled.
Finally, you really should consider using security on your router, so wireless connections would be password protected. I suggest wpa personal.
