Hi,
This could be an issue with the integrated graphics card( This computer has integrated graphics card) or faulty motherboard.
In order to check he motherboard follow the the steps below:
1)open the computer tower by removing the side panel.
2)Remove all the memory chips(RAM) from the computer.
3)Try to turn the computer on.
4)If it is beeping then the motherboard is fine.
5)If you don't hear any beep motherboard is failed.
****Even if the motherboard is working as there is an issue with the integrated graphics you need to replace the motherboard.
Thanks.

Monitor flicker

Have you updated any software, drivers, any hardware changed? Have you reseated the monitor cables? Changed the resolution? When it's in safe mode the resolution is different, you can check it in Display Properties, by right clicking an open area on the disktop and selecting Screen Resolution, then boot to normal desktop, check screen resolution.

My HP monitor flickers when switched on for 5seconds the goes black. It does this for about 2 minutes coming on and going black on it's own before going into stand by. I really need help. I have...

Hello,
Reading the symptoms there might be some things:
1. Incorrect voltage by the power supply unit to the mainboard and the lamp(s). 2. The lamp(s) used for backlighting the lcd matrix. If you have another 17" matrix (the lamps are integrated inside) you can switch to check if the problem will be fixed. 3. CPU fail
If you are a technician working in a computer repair company there is a chance to get same model and get 1 working of 2 failed monitor, otherwise buying a new one will be cheaper than the repairing in a service.
Hope this helps Alex

The fan seems to be running hard and loud. i have cleaned the system and it's running quieter since then. is that normal for the system to do?

I'm assuming that when you say you cleaned the system that you mean you removed programs, old files, viruses, etc.
If your computer is set to change fan speed based on how hot the processor or video card gets, which it probably is, then more programs and stuff running on the computer would cause your hardware to work harder, get hotter, and need more ventilation. Thus faster fan speed.
However, I believe what really happened is that dust collected on the fan(s), causing them to make some new noises and then the dust fell off because it was so heavy or it got sucked through the fan and out of the way finally. Which means it was a coincidence.
Now if you meant that you literally cleaned the computer (opened it up and blew all the "dust bunnys" out) then yeah it makes perfect sense that it would be come quiter.
By the way, if you have not opened the computer case and cleaned out all of the dust, you really really should.
Disconnect the computer from the outlet, open up the case, and using a can of compressed air (about $5) blow out all of the dust, hair, and dirt to make sure your hardware stays in good condition.

HP Pavillion a805n won't power up

what is your household Current? that voltage setting will not work in the United States since household current is 120. The switch in the US should be set for 120 volts AC. If you out the old ram back in place will the computer power up? If yes then you may have exceeded the capacity of the computer. You also need to check the the BIOS settings to make sure that the computer detected the new ram.

I think you had better put a voltage spike surge protector on the monitor, you need to use a good one, computer sales stores have them, about $35.00 Also check eBay

Monitor comes on, I can see everything perfect then goes black

"Most" newer monitors will let you know if the are no longer receiving a signal. Sounds like the backlight is burnt out. Try getting a bright (LED works best) flashlight and shining it at the screen at all angles to see if you can see any of what you were doing. If the backlight is on the fritz, either return it on warranty or buy a new one.

LCD monitor comes on for about 10 seconds then goes off

It sounds like the power supply board on the monitor may be faulty (that or the backlight).

You could test it on another computer to see if does the same thing (or another monitor on your computer).
If the same problem occurs on this LCD you'll either need to get it repaired under warranty, or pay for it to be repaired. Or just throw it out.
