Monitor will start out just fine, then will start a high pitch buzzing sound. After a while the power light stays on the monitor but the screen goes blank. If I turn the power off then on it will come back on for a while.

The power supply of your HP Monitor is failing - it is not able to sustain the voltage needed to maintain picture.

It is possible that solid-state components could be replaced on the circuit boards to fix this situation, but for the trouble and expense I must recommend replacement.

I hope that helps.

when the screen is black and the power light is steadly lit, shine a flash light at the screen. if you can see something, the inverter board is bad and the back light cannot turn on. if the power light flickers, reseat the power plug and put your ear to the back of the monitor where the power plug is. if you hear a buzzing or any high pitched noises; the power supply is bad. use the macufactures warranty for repairs.

Monitor Goes black, or flickers on and off

The high pitch sound is coming from the inverter. It is faulty and needs to be repaired or replaced. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp, this lamp gives the backlight to the LCD so you can see the LCD images.

There is a loud buzzing/static sound coming from my monitor. It changes pitch and sound a little with different screens. The visual display does not seem to be effected. Just a terrible sound. Any ideas...

Start by getting a can of the electronics spray air and blowing out and areas that may collect dust.

Also jiggle the power cord attached to the monitor and watch to see if it changes the monitor or the squealing at all.

Seems more like a lose power connection, but eliminate the simple possibilities before moving toward circuit board issues etc.

Also do you have any other high powered electronic devices near the monitor?

That can effect it's performance as well.

Monitor will flash windowsxp when I boot up CPU but then goes out

Your monitors backlight is shutting off due to a failed component. The inverter circuit which drives the high current CCFL backlights, has a feedback design so that if there are any problems with the devices along the high current path, the high current will shut off. This way if something got shorted out, it would not sustain or cause any great harm. This is a great feature if you are the "short" in the circuit.

So in actuallity, your monitor is still on, and it's still showing you a picture. You just can't really see it because the light from behind has turned off. If you take a flashlight and put it up close to the screen, you'll see your desktop again!

As to what is causing this, It can be several things.
-A broken or burnt out CCFL
-A bad capacitor in the power supply filter or on the inverter.
-A shorted out IC.
-A mouse has crawled inside your LCD and chewed the CCFL wires. (this usually is accompanied with a high pitched squeeling sound, and/or smoke)

You can send me the entire monitor and I will repair it for $40. You pay shipping costs BOTH ways. Let me know if you're interested and I'll provide you with more information on where to send it.

Thanks

Monitor loses power randomly.

Is your monitor a CRT or LCD type. For CRT type information follows. In most cases your simptoms indicate a problem with the High Voltage or blanking circuits. Caution the High voltage can be as much as 40,000 volts and even unplugged from the wall the picture tube can continue to hold voltage (enough to hurt you). Do you here a snapping sound from the back of the crt. If you do the high voltage is shorting out and the protection circuit is turning off the high voltage. If you do not here sparking another possible cause is a faulty capacitor in the protection circuit or the flyback (high voltage transformer). Unless you are educated in electronic circuit repair this one is probable beyond your curren knowledge level. You can try taking the back off and cleaning out all the dust, but remember to stay away from the red wire that goes to the picture tube. Use only non metal cleaning tools. Good Luck

My Moniter won't work!

That high pitched sound in one way is a very good thing. It pretty much points out the source of the problem itself. That is more than likely either a blown capacitor or transformer on the power source inside the monitor. I would rule out the power inverter for the LCD backlight because the power light will not turn on either. I have found that Samsung is very good with their repairs, and if it is a somewhat recent model they should be able to get it drop ship repaired with little expense. That can be an inconvenience, and if you do decide to replace the monitor altogether, please be eco-conscious and have the old screen either donated to a goodwill organization where scavengers like me will buy it for raw parts, or to an electronics recycling center. E-Waste is becoming a very large problem and LCDs and flat screens are a hefty piece of it.
