No! You would have to rebuild the entire microwave including the part that produces the radiation (magnetron or similar). Then you need to seal the unit to keep the radiation from leaking into the rest of your kitchen. The radiation leakage would a) result in much slower cooking and b) be dangerous since it could arc with any nearby metal including the stove. Buying a new microwave would be cheaper and safer.

A countertop microwave in a different part of the kitchen might be a better choice.

I wish that I could be more helpful.

Cindy Wells
(the major parts of the microwave die when they reach ~200 degrees; the housing won't melt until it is much hotter (if I remember the melting points of the common plastics used correctly).)

Grease dripping from bottom of microwave

sometimes when a microwave is mounted above a range some people dont always consider that you have to take into consideration that you have to go by the heat rating guidelines because it will melt the white lithium grease off the gearing and it can possibly melt some of the protective coating from the circuit boards so check if it is rated to be placed above a range and go from there

I have a whirlpool RM278BXS microwave oven. Inside the microwave oven along the rear bottom is a thin strip of sealant. The sealant is melted/burned in the middle section for about 1-inch long. I can...

Your best bet is to pull out all the old seal you can, and to trim what's firm with a razor blade.

Sand it smooth if necessary, then clean it squeaky and apply new caulk / silicone sealant.

Leave the door open to allow it to dry out overnight.

If it's not repaired, moisture can cause rust, which will lead eventually disintegrate the metal and lead to to arcing and possible fire in time.

The push button that opens the door on our Sharp Carousel R-1406F over the range microwave, is broken. We can push it in but it gets stuck. I cleaned it out because it was kind of dirty but it didn't...

It may be the door open button or the door button lever. Sometimes grease is the culprit, other times the surfaces where these two meet get worn, making the door harder to open.

Door-activated power switch is loose and/or has a short

Fixed this problem! The door latches were greasy and sticking in the closed position (i.e., pushed down so not latching and engaging fully when the door was closed) and this created the problems described above. Solution was to squirt some Windex into the latch holes to dissolve the grease. The switches popped back into position (must be spring-loaded) and the door closed and latched properly, allowing the oven to function properly. I swabbed out the hole with a q-tip, let it dry for 20 minutes and all is well.

Microwave display window shows locked!!!!

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

Let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

There may be grease or soot on the control panel causing a lockup, and it may need circuit board cleaning / repair or a new keypad.

Small fire in above range microwave, now completely dead.

It probably put too much heat in the "innards" of the microwave and probably opened the thermostat or thermal fuse located inside -either on the chassis of the microwave or or the magnetron. If you or a friend is handy and wants to check and replace it, it's not a hard job as long as you play it safe. It will look something like the attached photo. In my profile you can find a link to my site where you can find critical safety & disassembly tips. There will be numbers on the side indicating the temperature and you can take the old one to a local appliance parts store to get a new one. NOTE: The one for the hood fan will read open at room temperature, so don't confuse it with the other two thermostats, which will read closed at room temperature. Post back if you need more help.
