Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

1 Answer

My Neptune front-load washer goes through every cycle on time and with the proper water-in and water-out but refuses to spin-dry at any point. I noticed the original problem when it was spin-drying a big quilt and must have stopped before all the water was extracted because the quilt was still quite wet upon removal. We did a dusting and cleaning of all the innards, put it back together and it did a medium-sized load perfectly. Then I put in a small quilt to wash and there's no spin-drying going on. I assume I've overloaded and something has changed or broken. Can we fix this ourselves easily? (the smaller quilt is one that I've washed hundreds of times over the years with no problems at all)

If the washe model number does not start with MAH5500B: Check if the "locked"or "door locked" light comes on. If it does not, you need to replace the wax motor in the door lock assembly and the machine control board, which is inside the control panel. The control board is expensive, so instead of buying the whole control board, if you're good in electronic repair and soldering, try checking ebay for the control board repair kit. Search for "MAYTAG NEPTUNE WASHER R11 Q6 REPAIR KIT". It has all instructions how to do the repair. Good luck!

The gentleman addressed the situation where the "door locked" light doesn't come on, which is not the case for me. I was hoping to say (or implied, at least) that everything else was working on the machine except the spin cycle. So this response did not help me at all. Sorry if I wasted your time with unclear language.

You can hear water behind the drum when you spin

I don't believe you have a problem with your washer. It is NORMAL to have residual water in the drain lines and drain pump following a wash cycle. You will be able to hear the water sloshing around if you move the drum or drain lines. This is the lowest point of the drain cycle and gravity will ALWAYS cause some water to be there. As long as the water is not visible in the spin basket inside the drum, and the washer is properly draining during the wash and rinse cycles, you have nothing to worry about.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer Model MAH4000AWW low last spin

two problems here,
your shaft seal is running on its last leg
the sound is unmistakeable and always described the same...
the water issue, you probably have a trickle leak through the cold water valve
the mixing valve is quite an easy repair, but I would have to say with all honesty, it probably time for a new machine
the hub seal is a tub replacment call
2 hrs of labor if hes good
and the tub runs around 500.00 dollars
sory for the bad news

What does the max extract feature do

If the washer is removing all of the water from the washer during the spin cycle it is likely working properly. Not an expert but I believe max extract causes the washer to spin for a slightly longer period of time in order to remove more water from the clothes. We use it regularly because our clothes come out to wet otherwise.

What will the Max Extract button do?

The max extract button will do an extra spin to get any & excess water out of the clothes. It is a good thing to keep on to help cut down on drying time. If you find standing water in the washer, it is possible the hose is NOT in the correct position.

A dc error means that the clothing is not being distributed properly in the basket. This usually happens when the machine is lightly loaded. If the load seems o.k. then the problem is probably with the sensor at the side of the basket.
