I use Zoomspout oil. It is safe for dryers because it is non flammable, won't dissipate easily and heat resistant. Near as I can tell by looking at your partial model number, that dryer is mostly like a Cabrio dryer. I am gonna post a Cabrio dryer manual just to give you an idea what ya have to do to get into this beast,

You can get more info on your dryer by posting a complete

My maytag dryer is about 17 years old. It turns on but the drum does not spin

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a broken belt, or the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley, or idler arm pulley.
If you have to check/replace your drum belt and if you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch or other connections.
Remove the lint filter screws and filter.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Note: Some of the tops tilt backwards and do not have to be removed completly.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.

MAYTAG DRYER MOD. # MED9600SQO. Squeals while running. It is 3 years old. When I remove the belt and roll it by hand it sounds fine. Does a bearing in the motor in these tend to wear out prematurally.

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

Yes, replacing the drum rollers is fairly cheap especially if you do it yourself, saves you the price of a new dryer for a few more years maybe.

Maytag Dryer, 25 year old dryer has a loud squeak

Hello.

The squeaking is coming from the rollers that the drum rides on. If you take the model number to a local appliance service store they will have the parts and be able to direct you on replacing them.

Dryer making horrible squeeling noise

this is normally a problem with rollers that have gotten dry bearings , take the drum out check the rollers if they turn hard or act sticky you may clean them up and and oil with turbine oil , do not use wd-40 or 3in 1 as these will dry the bearing, check the idler pulley while you have this apart also oiling it if need be

While my dryer is running it makes intermittent squeaks.

most of the time your rollers and belt are fine 1st thing to check would be the idler pully which keeps the tension on the belt so the tub spins

Clunking whirlpool drier

rollers and or felts are cheap,
much cheaper than a new dryer,
and nobody now makes a dryer that will last 25 years.
I have maytags 1972, 1974, kenmore 1968, speed queen 1980,
in each apartment building used by 11 families, to keep them running costs peanuts

new dryers?, - 3 years is all you get before the $$$ starts
