Left chanel on headphones has stopped working

ok. I have checked the wires and all seems to be ok. I removed the plastic section inside containing the speaker and noticed that there is a clear plastic membrane over the magnet in the centre of the ear piece. That plastic seems to have come away from the walls of the plastic frame work. Would that cause the unit not to function?

Thanks for that. I have checked the wires and all is ok. I did find out however that the plastic membrane that covers the magnet in the centre of the earpiece has come away from the edges. I'm assuming that this might be the problem and that the headphones are non repairable. Would I be right?

Hi,
Test your head phone with other device like MP3 player, Walkman, or mobile phone and check whether left channel is working or not, If left channel of headphone working with other device then your headphone is alright.

If left channel of headphone is not working with other device then definitely a wiring fault, either the plug is not connecting to the port well or at some point the left wire is broken, probably where it meets the left earphone. Try jiggling it around near the earphone while playing music, and see if you can get it to work, otherwise there is not much to do other than getting a new headphone.

Thanks for using Fixya,
Good luck and have a nice day

Hi, well usually whenever this happens, in my shop, it is the cord, they break internally, usually, by the Plug, or by the entry point into the headset. Occasionally it may fail in the length. You maybe able to feel where the break is, by running your fingers along the cable, when you come to the area of damage, it will feel different, sort of easier to bend.
If you are handy with a soldering iron, then you could no doubt resolder on a suitable cable, you should be able to get one from say radio Shack, or similar.
if you know any local TV repair people, I am sure they would have NO problem redoing a new cable for little cost.
Otherwise the only other option would be a new set?

My left headphone stopped working after a year or so. How can i fix this?

The copper wires inside the cable have broken. Since you don't know where the break occurred all you can do is to open the left headphone, remove the speaker, cut a piece of the cord and resolder it to the speaker. Test it, if it's fixed just put the headphone back together. If not, cut another piece. If you must cut more than a third of the cable to get it working then it's dead, just buy a new pair.

Mine is a bit older (2yrs), but I have exactly the same problem. Absolutely no sound from the headphones (no beeps). I also tried new batteries, but still nothing.

If you have a solution, let me know!

Hello, headphone jack is loose, i have to hold the jack and press ir against an angle to make both chanels work. walter

Hi Walter,

If the headphone jack is loose you can try to use the USB headset (If there is one) or Bluetooth.
If you wanna fix the headphone jack yourself you can find a very good step by step guide here.
The repair service will take about anything from 40$-60$ to repair it.

Good Luck!

Most repair shops offer a warranty. If you've recently had it repaired, return it to the shop to have them check it out. If you continue playing it as it is, more damage may occur and the additional damage isn't likely to be covered by the warranty.
