Question about Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Calculator

1 Answer

Hello, I'm a police detective in Pennsylvania. A Texas Ins. TI-84 calculator showed up at our local pawn shop and appears to be stolen from Huston TX area. Because of the distance, I want to make sure that our system didn't hit on a model or product number instead of a serial number. Can you tell me if the following number for one of these calculators would be a serial number or not: 033317192120. Thank you, Lt. Clark Bearinger 717-735-3405

Hello Sir,
The serial number of a TI84Plus calculator is found on the back of the calculator, between the two elongated depressed areas.
The structure of the identification number (serial number followed by manufacturing date) is as follows
where d stands for a digit, and L for a letter.
The string of 10 digits at the beginning is unique (that is the serial number) but the rest is not.

I checked the serial numbers of 7 different types of TI graphing calculators I own, and the structure is I described to you. There is one exception. The serial numbers of the TI92 and TI92Plus contain a letter V, at the beginning for one model and in the middle for the other. Whether containing one letter or not the first string is 10 characters long.

Good Luck Lieutenant.

Testimonial: "Thank you. From what you described, this would not be a valid serial number."

I forgot to tell you that Texas Instruments do not register the serial numbers of the calculators ( as declared on their website).

How to recover a stolen gps

Unfortunately there is no means of tracking the stolen GPS.
If you have a record of the serial number, you could report it to the police.
The GPS may show up at a local pawn shop and if the police have the serial number on file, they could possibly recover it for you.

I own a ti-84 plus silver edition, and when i enter two equations y=2x+3 and y=(-.5x)+3 They should be perpendicular lines.

And they are perpendicular. But due to the finite resolution of the screen they do not appear to be. However if you had a geometry application linked with the function graphing the measurement of the angle between the lines will show that it is 90 degrees, or 1.58 rad.
This screen capture from the TI'Nspire will convince you, I hope.

Hope it helps.

The most likely reason is that the backup battery is drained. Change the backup battery. When you get the Ram Cleared message, just press [CLEAR] to erase the message and start using the calculator.
Hope it helps.
