Question about Sceptre X9G Komodo IV 19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

Sceptre X9G Komodo IV 19 in

Display went out, only comes on for about a second when power button is pushed off and on. Opened monitor up, looks like two coils labeled L1 and L2 are burned at the top. The two caps most people are talking about c114 and c115 look just fine. Monitor is about 3 years old.

I have the same problem, started maybe a month ago on a monitor purchased in Feb 2004.

Me too!  Same problem described here ... Using dual display (both same Sceptre X9G Komodo II) about 3 years old now.  Just recently the one monitor display would be dark at startup.  For a few weeks I just powered it off and back on and it would then stay lit until the next time.  However, now the screen will only stay on for a second (long enough to display the desktop) and then shuts itself off.  Blue light is lit.  Connections are good.  I switched DVI cables to troubleshoot, and the problem remains with the same monitor so I know something's wrong.  I can't seem to find manufacturer's info online anywhere -- anyone have it?  Do you really think it necessary to send back or if I'm technically savvy enough could I manage this fix?  Please advise.  Thx.

Mine will turn on when it's not plugged in to the comp and will show "non connection". But! When it's plugged in it's the same as I've read here. push the on button and it immediately goes out. Now, I can replace parts but I'd sure like to know what part to replace! Any Suggestions???

I found the power supply/inverter on Ebay for $40.00.
It is an LM004 Rev2 for the X9G Komodo VI.
It came from Germany.
I had the inverter section go out.
I had replaced all the caps. The capacitors were not the problem.

I had the exact problem with mine when I just bought it -- It would turn on for a second or two and the screen would go blank. I had to send it back to the manufacturer to get it fixed. It was a minor problem and they just replaced a part and sent it right back to me. It has worked perfectly since then. Hopefully yours is still under warranty. fyi -- I think that it was a problem with the power supply unit.

Same problem here

My Sceptre Komodo 19 would turn on for less than a second than turn off. Eventually, I could get it to stay up. But after a month, I couldn't get it to stay on anymore.
I found the solution on this website. There are some bad capacitors... 4 of them for about $2 worth. I replaced all four and the monitor works fine again. They are soldered in. They are polarized; they need to be installed the right way. The white stripe goes towards the “wall”.
2 are 470uf 25v and 2 are 1200uf 10v.
I ordered mine for about $10 with shipping from Mouser.com

Sceptre X9G Komodo IV 19" Monitor

Hi dgp1952, Check with www.lcdrepair.net if you want a repair. Something is wrong with your backlight or the circuit supplying power to it. If your technically endowed, you may want to open the monitor case and clean the dust and lint from around the circuits using a Small paint brush to sweep away any built up dust. Dust can cause the circuitry to heat up faster and put the power supply into Clamp mode. Clamp mode will turn the supply off to certain circuits which may be the reason your display is going black after 5 minutes.

Sceptre X9G-Komodo IV

I recently came accross one of these monitors (Planar PE191M) with the identical issue. The resolution was to replace the two 470ufd 25V capacitors that are located on the main power board. The main power board also contains the audio circuit and more importantly the inverter circuit that drives the CCFL backlighting. The suspect caps were identified using an ESR meter; if you happen to have one of these meters you can confirm this is the issue with your unit(s), alternatively you can just replace the two capacitors and see if it resolves your issue. Hope this info helps someone out there.
