Question about Whirlpool LGB6300 Gas Dryer

2 Answers

Whirlpool Gas Dryer Model # LGR7646JQ0. Bought it used, warranty useless since the shop I got it from went out of business. Everything works fine. The drum turns, the timer works but the thing doesn't heat up. I have already checked the gas supply line and the dryer is getting gas. I cleaned out the vent and the lint filter and still no heat. What can I do to fix this?

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Your power for the burner assy goes on a series circuit from the timer to the high-limit thermostat to the operating thermostat to the thermal fuse to the gas burner assy, thru the motor centrifugal switch to the door switch. EACH of these must be functioning for the burner to light.

This manual will help with some of the how to do it as far as component access, removal and replacement of parts.

On the left side of dryer you'll see a plastic cap,pop it off, start the dryer and look inside the hole and see if the ignitor is glowing,if it doesn't you could have a bad sensor or the ignitor is bad, unplug the dryer and with a meter check the sensor and the ignitor to see what's bad.if it does glow and then goes out without lighting you could have bad gas coils or a bad gas valve, let me know what you find

Ive changed the ignitor, sensor, thermostat, fuse-thrml, and thermostat-fix.. my dryer still is only heating for only 5 min then goes cold. what can i do? model: LGR7646JQ0

This is usually the dryer coils have failed. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a video on replacing the dryer coils.

Lack of airflow can cause the unit to overheat and shutdown. Check all the vent pipes for obstruction. IT could also be the high limit or the thermostat that is bad.

Sounds like you have a bad warp switch. Also could have a gas valve going bad.

Is yours the gas model? If so I need you to look for some things. Open back door panel and see if while trying to light the igniter is glowing orange. Sea Breeze

This should show you a parts break down for the unit. You can also find a schematic in the console (usually about 6 1/4" screws from the back of the console). As far as your problem, overheating could be causing it. Run the unit without the vent attached and see if the problem persists. If the unit keeps running, you'll know you have a venting problem. If the problem persists, I would usually replace the gas valves (usually one goes bad and won't hold open). These would be availible from a local appliance parts store.

Dryer is running but it's not hot

If the electronic start is not working, it may need to be replaced. Call an appliance parts store and ask some specific questions to them about how you can test that component and if they carry a replacement for your specific make and model. Good Luck!
