Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Our 3-door traulsen freezer had new seals installed (incorrectly) which caused the freezer to stay on continously for 12 hrs. The compressor was frozen with ice and the temp increased to 22 degrees. I shut off the unit but what do I do?

When you say the temp was increased to 22degrees you do mean
-22C not +22.if it was minus 22C then just ensure seals are on correctly and leave it switched on it will settle down to -18C in its own time....do not use any heating on the compressor, just leave it.

Fridge and freezer at 50 degrees with settings on max cold. I can hear compressor cycling and all power is on. Suggestions?

Your Refrig/freezer should be set as follows:

Refrigerators: 36 to 40 degrees. Ideal temp is 37 Fahrenheit. Note: A temp above 42 degrees promotes bacteria.

Freezer: temp should be -5 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideal temp is 0 degrees.

Then check the door seals around the edges to see if any splits, tears or cracks have messed up the seal. This will cause your compressor to constantly run as it's trying to cool off the warm house is being sucked into the freezer (or Refrig). A sure sign the door seals are damaged is lots of ice in the freezer door area or water pooling in the bottom area of the refrigerator.

Wait about 4 hrs after you readjusted the Refrigerator/Freezer settings so everything settles down. If you still have problems then the coolant may need to be serviced (topped off) or the motor serviced/checked.

Don't procrastinate because a water heater and Refrig/freezer are the 2 largest energy users in your home- they run 24 hrs a day.

Hope this helps...

first ask yourself how old is this compressor?
how much to fix it and re-gass it?
if you pay to fix it, how much life is left in the old girl?

Very loud compressor in traulsen freezer

It's probably a hermetic compressor. Nothing can be done. It's got an internal rattle, possibly defective valves, or freon was avercharged.

May be your freezer evaporator drain hole is frozen. If this is the case, you can try to install a low heat drain hole heater into the drain hole and connect the wires with the defrost heater.

may be you have problem with the Evaporator fan motor not running, defrost heater, defrost timer, open gap on door gasket and bad thermostat (cold control), it may kept the compressor constantly running. Good luck.

2 door freezer from traulsen never get cold, compressor is running

check the freon level. Most likely low on that. Many other things can cause this but start there and let me know if we need to go farther.

Why does my maytag fridge drip water around the freezer door?

Freezer door frames have a small heating element in them to stop that happening. Your element is failed.

Torn gasket seals just cause frost inside, but also cause the compressor extra stress if the seal is bad. This causes the compressor to keep running as yours does. They are cheap to buy and easy to fit.

With a 12 year old one, it is probably time for a new one. The new ones are more energy efficient and are cheaper to run.

I have worked in a lot of kitchens and don't really have a preferance. The top mounted compressor is better for you as it is easier to service and leaves more cabinet room. Dirt and dust also stay near the floor. YOu won't have to clean the filter as often up high The disadvantage to this in a kitchen is that kitchens are hot and up high is hotter still. Order a cheaper model. No glass doors, no stainless steel. You don't need these features.
