TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does this do anything? If not, please append a comment and we'll go on to the next step.

Actually no, sorry. I totally forgot about this till I just got an email notification. I've had a lot going on (new apartment, going back to grad school, family wedding) so I never ended up coming back to post that your solution did not help. If you can offer any other suggestions I'd gladly take them, but I understand that I may have wasted some of your time already.

Sorry no. I had a lot going on recently in life (wedding, moving into a new apt, and getting back to grad school) so I had forgotten to respond to your post, till I just got a notification that you'd said something else. The contrast issue did not help, and I understand if you don't want to help me after I didn't give you feedback for this long, but I'd appreciate any other suggestions.

Having gone over a month without a response to my query, I assume it was just a contrast problem, which my suggestion solved.

    No problem.

Try this next: turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Now hold down the diamond key and then hold down the key. Does the entire screen darken?

Ah! You're too on the ball with more suggestions! I'll post back here in a week. Right now it's packed away with some of my other stuff that's headed to my new apartment next week when I finish settling in.

Got wet, powers on but doesn't display images

Take it as completly apart as you can. Let it be for at least 24 hours. If he screen still doesn't work, it never will again. Unless it is a very exspensive camera, it would not be worth it to have the screen fixed.

I just changed the 4 aaa batteries and when i turn the screen on it black

Turn the calculator on and then alternately hit the 2nd key followed by the down arrow do this several times in a row until you see the desired contrast. Mine worked but the other places said to just hit the 2nd key and then the down arrow. It has to be done several times. I hope this helps others.

I replaced 4-AAA batteries with new ones and now the screen is completely scrambled and unreadable. TI-83 Plus

Remove one of the AAA batteries.

Press and hold CLEAR while reinstalling the AAA battery.

Continue holding CLEAR button and press ON.

Release buttons and press CLEAR again.

Calculator should be normal mode now.

Extremely long time writing to CF card

IIRC these cameras support a noise reduction feature through a custom function. The camera will take a second exposure with the shutter closed (i.e. against something pure black) to see which pixels in the camera are "hot", and then will use that information to remove that hot pixel noise from the original image. "hot" pixels depend on temperature and exposure length so the camera would need to do this on every shot.

Err after a shot usually means bad AAA batteries. Change to alcaline or NiMH rechargable.

Calculator will not come on

I have the same problem with the calc not responding to removing one batt and reinstalling while holding clear, etc. My fix is to hook up wires to the battery leads and plug the wire into a 120 volt outlet. Watch it light up, but do NOT breath the smoke as it is extremely toxic. ;-) lkw
