Is the HD SAS/SCSI/SATA on a raid controller?

If so you need to enter the RAID config (not the bios, but there will be a RAID config option during the boot process CTRL+M I believe.. but it will say on screen.) Then you need to set up the raid config, then initialise, then the drive will be detected for loading the OS.

Either that or the drive(s) shafted.

What sort of disks are you using?

NO HARD DISK FOUND DELL POWER EDGE 2950

Your probably got one ofthe following:

1. har drive crash
2. Hdd controller failure

Ether witch will need replacment parts and that you would see a local tech for if you do not know what your doing. You might need a new hard drive or acontroller in this case.

Thanks and please do be considerate and leave postive feedback ratings.

How long do Dell Poweredge 1600Sc Servers last? We've had ours for 7 yrs. For our office and have been told it's required to get a new one.

If it's still working, there's no "requirement" to replace it, but Dell will probably not support it after a certain age.

Servers in general will fail on either power supplies or hard disks. Both of those are well past the average lifespan (what's called the "mean time between failure", or mtbf for the parts)

If you don't have an IT person or department, the simplest approach is to ask yourself this question:
"What is the cost to my business if this computer dies tomorrow?"

Then figure out how much it would be to replace the computer (purchase + install and configure)
If the replacement cost is less than the business-impact cost, then you should replace this 7-year-old box.

Can a Dell 1600SC host Microsoft Small Business Server 2008?

Hello,

You can look on MS website for minimum requirements or you can use the 1st disk to test your server to see if is compatable. With your server on, Put the 1st disk in your optical drive and choose the option to test your server for compatiablity. It will generate a report for you.

Good Luck

This needs to be reconfigured again. My suggestion is to call DELL again so that things happen they can still able to do the replacement of the hard drive.

I have lost the scsi drive on a dell 1600sc and would like to convert to sata. During boot up the sata controller is reconizing the 2 hard drives but, come but with "no primary drive found"

The best thing to do is reinstalling SCSI, SATA can only manage two disk per channel on this server, and the data transfer time is longer.

If you set SATA, check jumper settings, that is probably reason why you get no primary drive.
Also check bios settings , do hdd auto detect and save in bios if you want to use sata.

If instead you want to go back to SCSI, download the drivers from the link below.

Download page from Dell.

Dell PowerEdge 1600SC Server occasionally beeps when running

Check out this site:

http://bioscentral.com/postcodes/dellbios.htm

Write down the exact number of beeps and how long they last to find what the error means. The are call BIOS post codes and they resemble Morse Code. (ie. one long, 3 short, 2 long = RAM issue) Good luck!!
