Kenwood DVF-9010 problem

Hello guys,
             I tried playing 'Babe' (region 1, DTS) and I got a message that
the disc was not playable. I realised then that the machine was set for
region 4. So I tried to change the region to 1 but I get the shimmering
screen. I reset the microprocessor as mentioned in the manual (Press'stop'
and 'Pause' buttons together until it says'Initialised'). But no luck.
Switching back to region 4 gives a normal picture. I get regions 2, 4 and 5
alright.
           Anyone experienced this problem or is it good bye to my player ?
I got this player from Singapore, so I can't take this back to the shop. Any
help would be appreciated. Thanks.
