Question about PC Laptops
I have just bought an Acer aspire 5520 this week, I have tried to install my BT broadband and also microsoft office but it seem that it is not reading the CD's when I click on the CD driver Icon it shows as there is no CD in the drive.
Can you please help?
I also have this same problem... why don't you check if the drive is showing on the bios? if not, then, i'm sorry, but it's the cd-drive, it is the MOTHERBOARD! in my own case, i have 2 acer aspire 5520, one is mine and the other is my brother's. I tried replacing my cd-drive with his and the problem persists, also, when i've had installed my drive in his laptop, the device worked as it was a brad new. so in my opinion, if it doesn't show on your bios, either keep the laptop until it stops completly or sell it for less than half of it's purchase price. if you are stil within the warranty coverage time, try getting a replacement of the whole machine, or at least the motherboard. Remember, it is NOT worth bying a new motherboard as it's cost is almost as high as a brand-new laptop

if you bought it from new it's still under acer's warranty call them for repair or replacement, if not do a system recovery i think you press ALT + F10 as soon as you switch the laptop on restore it to factory settings if that doesn't work your drive is faulty and will need replacing.
