Mine (WM50301) is in exactly the same state, which suggests that one of two things has happened:
1) If brushes were worn totally, commutator may be damaged
2) Electronics (triac and/or its control circuitry) on the controller board has died.
The fix for these is likely to be replacing the motor, or the control board, or both -- I'm not optimistic, and am looking at replacement machines. However, I have lined up a repairman from Appliance Care to look at it on Wednesday (25 Aug), and I'll report what he says on this forum.

Hi -- I have found out more, and fixed it. There is a thermal fuse in the motor which may be blown. Unplug and remove the motor, and then remove the brushes. Check that there is electrical continuity between each brush housing and one of the pins of the connector on the motor. If one of them is not connected, open up the motor:

    - Mark a line down one side of the motor with a permanent marker, to help get everything the right way round for re-assembly

    - take out 4 bolts

    - lift off the top housing

    - take out the armature (and clean up the commutator while you have the chance

    - lift off the field winding assembly. It's quite heavy, but it's plugged in to the bottom assembly so should lift away cleanly

    - The thermal fuse is (probably) a metal component seated in the plastic assembly near to one brush housing. Check that it's open circuit. If so, snip it out.

    - New fuses can be bought from Maplin or RS (e.g. stock number 176-9508, rswww.com)

    - Solder the new fuse in making sure that there is at least 20mm of bare wire, and clamping this spare wire between narrow nosed pliers. If you don't do this (to conduct the heat away), you will blow the new fuse.

    - Re-assemble and go!!

Siemens xlm 1400 will not rinse clothes, it makes noise but the drum will not rotate eventhough it will turn by hand.

your motors drive brushes need replaced

so look to use the model number in EBAY

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xxlm+1400+brushes.TRS0&_nkw=xlm+1400+brushes&_sacat=0

i used the search string
'xlm 1400 brushes'
and they are quite easy to replace..

it may do a whole wash cycle and count down etc just wont spin or move the drum with heavy water laden clothes

goes eeeeeeeheheeheh but no drum rotate

so
you can drain the machine only
lay the machine down with the soap drawer away from the ground
then it wont leak
two screws and one power clip removes the brushes
from the main motor {the one with the belt that drives the drum}
their are two brushes one each side
so 4 screws
and replace both ..
so...

good times

let us know the size of the brushes left

they should be like new 2.5" - 3" long
if they are less then 1.5" replace them

this is the issue

the main advice is not to use it just now
till you check the motor brushes

as this type of fault can further damage the motor

so .. dont use it till you check / replace the brushes as the intermittent contacting will damage the motors stator {the bit the brushes make contact with}

Hi,

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Things that couse this are, worn motor brushes, unplug remove the top, the motor should be at the top, if so remove the wire attached to the spade of the grey cartridge then unclip using a very thin screwdriver pushed down the back of the cartridge, and slide out if there is only a small peice of brush showing they must be changed, if ok spin the drum by hand if it moves freely the the drum is ok, the last thing to check is if it moves through the wash, but its just the spin that it wont move, there is a blockage, and the preassure vessel wont allow it to spin.

Clothes are still soaking wet after spin cycle and the wash cycle is complete.

If the drum spins in the spin cycle, then the belt can't be broken. However, if the drum does not move at all in wash and spin, then the belt can be broken or just fallen off. You will have to remove the back plate and fit the belt back on the drum pulley and the motor pulley. If belt is ok check the motor brushes, they could be worn. They are located one on either side of the motor and identifiable by a single wire that connects to each one. You could also have a restriction in one of the drain hoses which is not allowing all the water to drain out.
