Shut it down, press power key and hold.
then start up holding shift key this will check the hdd and allow access to your files. (maybe backup at this stage, depends on you)

If it will not start the try this
start up holding down apple and s, you will see black screen with white lettering.
wait until all is started the type
fsck -f
then press return, this will force the hdd into testmode in unix.

do not type anything else,
when it is finished you can restart your mac.

before you try this you can create a test user and try the thing that causes the problem in that profile if the same thing happens ie mac hangs or freezes, then try the above steps. if all of this fails then back up your data and reformat the mac and reinstall the os

hope this helps
thanks for using FixYa

Opening url link on laptop with google

Can you be more specific? Are you connected to the internet when you tried the URL? Can you get to other websites? I'm assuming so - since you were able to post this question. Can you post the link of URL here? Are you trying to open the URL from another application like Word, Mail, Adobe?

Not connecting to the internet

Router ?

Problems authenticating a router in a computer is a common problem when installing a router or if your internet service gets disrupted. It is easy to solve and only requires a few steps to fix. A router forwards data from a computer to a computer network. The network can be between multiple computers, such as one would need in an office. The network can also, and more usually in households, used for connecting to the internet. Open "System Preferences" in the Applications folder in Finder. Open "Network" under "Internet and Wireless." Click "Advanced" and select "TCP/IP." Select "Renew DHCP License" and click ok. Attempt to connect to the internet. If the internet is still not connecting, restart the router and try the steps again. b> For non-Macs b> Open "Wireless Network Connection" from the wireless tab at the bottom of the screen. Select "Change Advanced Settings." Choose the "Wireless Networks" tab. Choose the wireless network you want to connect to and select the "Properties" button. Under the "Association" tab, make sure the Network Authentication has the proper security level chosen. Enter your network key if your security code is anything other than "Open" or "Shared." Select OK and try to connect. Go Back to "Wireless Networks" tab -> "Properties" and click on "Authentication" tab and un-select the "Enable authentication for the network" selection if the network key is still not authenticating the router. Select OK and try to connect.
Hope this helps.

I book 2002 when to the apple store they connect to the net i came home and its not working. is it a possibility it could be my modem

You'll need to set up the internet connection. Connect your modem, and open 'Network Utility' (/Applications/Utilities/Network Utility). Follow through the steps and you should be able to connect fine.
If not, the people at the Apple Store are always very helpful. Explain what type of modem you have and they'll be able to give advice.
Does the modem/internet connection work with other computers, out of interest?
Hope that helped!

I cant get connected to the internet

Providing that modem is working fine and we can get online if we connect the computer directly to it and having cable providers:

Steps to follow:

> Make sure modem is connected to the internet port of the router and from the router to the laptop/desktop computer
> On the back panel of the router there is a reset button. Reset the router for about a minute.
> As soon as the router powerlight is solid. Please open a web browser and on the address bar where you type http. Let's make sure to clear it out, type there the default Ip address of the router and press enter.
> Username and password appears. By default, leave the username blank and password is in a lower case admin
> After you enter the password, press enter. Linksys set up page will now appear.
> On the upper right where you see set up, underneath set up you have basic set up. In line with basic set up to the right there is mac address clone.
> Make sure to enable mac address and click clone my pc's mac. Save setting please.
> Check status to the upper right, on the status page scroll down the page, if we see internet IP address that is not then basically we are already connected to the internet.

I f I connect hotel internet via Apple USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter to my MacBook Air, internet after few minutes disconnected, to connect again i take out the cable, and then plug in, usually internet start...

Try turning off Airport. Your computer may be finding a wireless network and automatically switching to it, and getting an intermittent signal. Just a guess, but for a good ethernet connection you want to disable the Airport searching feature anyway.
Open the System Preferences application, select "Network" and right on the top left of the resulting window there's a pretty big button that will either say "Turn Airport On" or "Turn Airport Off" - just turn it off if it's not already ...

Hope this helps!

It could be that the location of the application is what has changed. Try launching your Safari from the application folder and see if you get by the dialog box and to a successful program launch.

My laptop indicates that I am connected to my home wireless network. However, when launching IE, I only receive message that I am not connected to the internet.

Try a direct connection with the modem and check whether you are able to go online. If not then its your modems issue contact your isp or if it works with the modem then check the ip address of the computer and also the internet port address it should not be if it is so your modem is not giving the public ip to connect to internet. If its a dynamic modem do a mac spoof.steps open the netgear smart wizard page.
click on basic settings under setup menu and in that window in the router mac address select "use computer mac address "option and click on apply. Now click on router status under maintenance menu and check the ip address in internet port(it should not be and in lan port(eg or you get all these correct then it can be browser issue delete temporary files and cookies or try with different browser.Hope this will help u.Rate me if i have hepled you.Thank you

Slow mac computer

Generally, there are a couple of reasons that may cause a Mac computer running slow, but generally two factors: hardware part & system part. For hardware part: I guess it's OK if your Mac is not that old. For system part: there might be a lot of junk files, caches, registry errors... out there which largely slow down any Mac machines. about 80% slow Mac caused by this reason, if so, try cleaning the system.
