Question about Samsung SyncMaster 740N 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Hi I own a Samsung 740 NW 17 inch monitor.About a week back, I have had a strange problem with the display. The monitor shows a series of vertical lines spaced across the screen(the lines are visible during the booting process too). Also, I am getting a "Not Optimum Resolution" message after start-up which does not seem to go away no matter what I do.Also,my graphics card is not getting recognized even though I tried re-installing the video drivers.I am confused whether the problem is with the monitor or the VGA card.Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

This usually happens when the video RAM on the videocard is faulty. The videocard may have also additional problems.
Replace the videocard.

This depends on your video card's capabilities. Try setting it to the lowest value, and then work your way up. If the screen is shaky, this may be a monitor problem. You may also try to set the refresh rate for the monitor lower, as this can be the cause of shakiness.

Problem with display of Monitor

Hey Mate, its either the graphics card of the monitor. both can give you that problem, first thing i would try is open the base unit and take out the graphics card and refit it, see if it fixes your problem or test another monitor on it. Second if its the monitor your best to send it back to samsung as it they honestly aint worth fixing, will cost you probably more than the monitor is worth, we used to sell the samsung syncmaster monitors and they were nothing but hassle, its the only monitor we ever sold they we sent about 70% of them back for dead pixels, or just packing in for one reason or another. All the best John
