Sata Hard drive errors and Raid errors

See this answer

Reboot your system and hit F2 as soon as you see the Dell startup screen (the options are F2 for setup, F12 for boot sequence).

In the System Setup screen, do these steps.

Select Drives:
Make sure your Diskette Drive (3.5 floppy) is set properly (Usually set to Internal)
Make sure that "Drive 0: SATA-0" drive is set to "ON"

Go to "SATA Operation":

Your system proabaly came set to "RAID Autodetect / AHCI" - THIS SETTING CAUSES YOUR SYSTEM TO GO INTO AN IDE LOOP AND DOESN'T ALLOW IT TO FIND YOUR FACTORY INSTALLED SATA DRIVE.

CHANGE THE SATA OPERATION SETTING TO "COMBINATION"

Reboot - make sure that the boot sequence is set to CD rom before HD and make sure that the reinstall CD is in the drive. Setup will load, hit enter to reinstall XP. Your HD should now be detected and you should see the licensing agreement.

If you have your files backed up I reccommend deleting the partition and reformatting prior to installing XP, it will give you that option after the license agreement.

Once you have successfully reinstalled the OS, Dell reccommends that you change the SATA Operation setting back to RAID AUTODETECT / AHCI (or back to whatever your factory setting was) to avoid any problems with other IDE devices installed on your system.

Computers comes on and it goes to verifying dmi pool data and comes back with error msg....or after its been unplug for awhile it goes back to normal but after awhile it freezes up and then when hard reset...

During the verifying dmi pool data stage of boot, the Motherboard is trying to 'poll' the devices in your PC. This is governed by the BIOS settings in the CMOS chip. It is possible to have a defective CMOS chip, but rare. It is possible to have invalid or corrupted BIOS data in the CMOS chip--which can be cleared to a 'default' state. You stated that if it is unplugged for a time, that it will 'go back to normal', the corruption is being reset. If your BIOS is set to be 'shadowed into memory' for faster loading, then Disable that feature and see if the problem is corrected.
You would need to open the Tower and locate the Motherboard Model (like P5SD2-VM) then look on the internet for the Manual for that model and see if there are any BIOS settings for the 'shadowing' of the BIOS.

This problem can also occur if there are SATA drives in the Tower and 1 or more are not being detected, (depending on the BIOS MFR,) this happens to older boards with SATA ports, much more than late model ones; so while you have that side-panel off, remove and re-connect all of your Power and Data cables to the Hard drives and the Optical drives, (CD/DVD.)

Problems loading OS in Gateway desktop

Normally installing the os on a different mechine, and then putting into another pc dosent work.

If the hardrive is the oringinal drive, which came with the system, and you want to install xp on, you will have to use a dos disk with fdisk on it, delete all partitions on the drive and create a new partition, then start loading windows, it will give you the option to format the drive for nt(ntfs) file system and setup windows.

If you do that and it still gives you protecting files error, you will have to take the side panel of the computer tower, unplug from the mains and take the cmos battery out for about 30 secs, put the battery back in, plug in the mains and reboot the computer, start loading windows again
Hope this helps and post back if you need further assistance.

Problem with scanning after updating from ppx2 to ppx3.my scanner is hp psc 1510. using insert command, when i click on "aquire" windows pops up saying: wait while i configure...

Uninstall the new upgrade and see if it works better. If that doesn't help try uninstall/reinstall the printer software. I'm not sure if an MS Updae has caused this or not but I had trouble wih mine and just reinstalled it about 20 minutes ago but haven't tested it yet!

Well XYZ if you had XP already on your computer and it worked, then there is no reason to go back to Windows Me 2000, but you do need to get ahold of the person who installed the XP version and have him reinstall it. You will have to Activate that one also within 30 days or it will do the same thing again. Or if you have someone with Win 2000 that will have to be reinstalled too. Regardless of which windows you decide on it has to be installed fresh. As for the Error Message windows cannot validate your version of windows is what they are telling you. I had that problem for so long I finally got tired of the **** and validating over the phone I finally got my XP that doesn't need validating. I do however have the validation code for all windows, send me your e-mail address and I will mail it to you. You will probably have to accept it before it will allow you to get it. After I send you the code I will remove your e-mail address for I have no need for it, Right? The code won't work for the windows alreadry on your computer, you need a fresh copy to install for the code to work. Let me know who you are when you write me so I don't delete your message. something like it's me, XYZ.
Good Luck

Dell optiplex gx260

Reference the Power LED States
Dell OptiPlex and Dimension computers and Dell Precision workstations have incorporated the use of the multi-state power button LED as a hardware status indicator. The power button LED illuminates in two different colors and can also blink, which allows for indication of five different system operation states. (Table 1)
LED State
System State
Steady Yellow The power supply is functioning, but the system is not processing data. This may indicate an issue with the system board or CPU. Blinking Yellow The power supply is receiving power from the source but is unable to properly distribute it to the components. This may indicate a power supply problem. Steady Green This generally indicates that the system is functioning normally. However, if problems are detected with installed components, the system may initiate a beep code. Blinking Green The system is in a Standby ACPI state. Off The system power is off.
