Replace snowblower belt

Locate the two top auger housing fastening bolts and remove. The auger housing will tilt forward and then lift the housing off of the bottom 2 bolts/bushings. You will need to support the traction frame as it will try to fall onto the handles.

My mtd yard machine bogs down in the tilled /cultivated dirt. the belly support is only less than 2 inches to the bottom of the tires! when I till the next row the tires just turn freely and I have to...

Sounds like a depth adjustment or a leverage problem.
Check your manual to see if you are able to lower the tines to a deeper position.
There usually is also a handle adjustment to raise the handle to get more leverage. (Not all Models) By pulling back on the handle it forces the tines into the soil and raises the tires. This allows the tines to agitate and do the work while at the same time walking the machine forward. When you push up on the handle the rubber tires provide traction and forward movement and less digging on the tines.
Method: Possibly by allowing a little space between passes your wheels won't hang up in the previous dead furrow. You can then go back over the skipped spaces or cultivate from the other direction and a criss cross pattern.
Best wishes,
TF

If it stalled while mowing long grass the drive system will need resetting. Do this by starting the mower, while in neutral place the speed lever in the highest speed setting then let you foot off the brake/clutch then back on. Place in forward and you should have drive restored. Regards Phil.

I have an MTD mower tha tis ver jerky in forward, reverse is fine. What could it be? The trans is about 2 years old. I thisnk it could be the clutch plate or the differentital, however, reverse works fine...

Assuming that the model you have is a single speed transmission with variable speed belt system and that the mower has never been used to tow anything heavier than a dump cart. 9 times out of 10 its usually the forward gear shift key not allowing it to go all the way into forward gear. Might be able to ajd the shift linkage to acomodate a tighter mesh with the input and ring gear

Need instructions to replace main drive & transmission belts. Mower will not go forward or backwards. MTD model # 13AN601H729

Before you go trying to replace the belts, did you shut it down the last time you used it while the transmission was in a HIGH range?
If you did, restart it, put your speed lever back in the same or higher position with the F& R shifter in neutral, let out on the clutch/brake pedal until it takes up the slack, then pull the speed lever back into lowest speed, push in the clutch/brake and put it in PARK. Shut of the engine and then restart, it should be back to normal operation now
