Question about Dryers
It's somewhat difficult to determine the cause of this problem, but from the information you provided, it sounds as though a potential cause could be the exhaust blower.
The reason it may not make the sound when the dryer is set to air only with no heat is that when the heat cyle is on, the blower wheel, cage and shaft gets much warmer and the heat from expansion may be causing one or both of the fan bearings to expand, causing more friction that results in the sound you hear.
Since you said it only makes noise when in the air-only mode, it doesn't sound like a drum support roller, belt or the main drive motor.
