There is a fuse in this unit but it will require a soldering iron to change it. Fuses are rarely the problem. This unit uses a switch mode power supply along with a small transformer for the standby voltage. It is possible that the internal fuse for the standby transformer has opened. The fix for this would be to replace the transformer. This is a common problem with lightning strikes and power surges. WIthout seeing the actual unit, I can't say that this is the problem for sure, but it is likely. Please note that JVC service manuals are not usually available outside of Authorized service centers.

If you can update this with your location, perhaps I can direct you to a local service center.

It would seem then, that I should be able to read 120V on the primary side of the transformer and 0 V on the secondary side if there is some internal fuse (fuse wire), should also be able to test continuity on both sides of the transformer. I'm on location on the Navajo reservation and have nothing with me to test with until I get into Flagstaff. A cheap volt meter should go a long way. I have it open and can see the transformer. Guess I need to poke around Thanks for the help

We know there is a fuse in this unit, and its not a common fuse that you are used to seeing to say the least.

I would advise you call this number if your intrested and having this fixed.

Repairing this does cost money, support cost money, But you got this advice FREE without charge. I am not saying Take it to the shop. I amsaying purchase a service manual and try to eing it yourself. There are fuses in just about anything that has a cord "almost" Yeah there can be other things wrong like Bown capacitors, bad transformer, bad amp. But i am not present to see what happend.

Thanks for using fixya.com please do rate before you leave, thanks

I did not saying anything wrong by saying its not a common fuse, And amde no attentions that it was one of those normal fuses, without testing equipment and or anything to diagnose with it would be hard to say i was completly off base here, light your match at the wood you want if it catches flame so be it, I feel the free answer i gave was good enough.

I presume we had a power surge of some kind. The TV will not power up. All the components (TV, DVD player, VHS/DVD Player) that were linked to cable went out other components (stereo) are still fine even...

You can only find out, if you can remove the back cover of the components not working. The best thing to look for, is to locate the fuses located in the power supplies of each component. If the glass fuses are open, and they are still clear, replacement may cure the problem. If the glass fuses contain smoke and show signs of being blackened, you have a serious problem. Power surge problems are very unique. As you say, other components connected to the same circuit or out let may still operate, is common. A blackened fuse will ask you to seek a repair tech. You may also see insurance for a possible claim. Insurance will ask you to see a repair center and give you an estimate for repair or replacement. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support.

I have a Spacemaker XL microwave model# JVM1340 WW that died. what current model# is an exact replacement?

Hello,

if you want a replacement, check this link; http://www.nextag.com/ge-spacemaker-xl-microwave-oven/compare-html

But basically, if it does not power up, then it means its having a power problem. it might have worked fine in the past, but that's electronics for you. Power surge, irregular power supply, excess power supply, etc can affect the unit thereby not making it to power on.

This unit must have a power supply board in it where power enters from the mains. A capacitor, fuse, diode, etc may have been defective on the power board and maybe that's why its not making the unit turn on. There might also be some disconnection or something, inside the unit which is not making it to power on.

To actually find out what's wrong, you need to disassemble the unit with a screw driver and check what's wrong. You will be needing a meter in order to test the components on the power board, once you detect any bad component, you can make necessary replacement at any electronics accessories store withing our vicinity. This is the only way by which you can detect the problem.

Of course, testing the power board with a meter will require someone that has the ability. So it you can't, then you might be needing the help of a repairman or you can call a friend that has the ability to help you out.

I wish you the best of luck.

My xl ex70 is dead

There is a small glass automotive fuse that is located inside the unit next to where the power comes into the unit. You can check this fuse to make sure that it is not blown. If the fuse is blown, you can replace it. But chances are that it will blow again. But sometimes it will work for a long while.

Power surge caused wine cooler to quit cooling

Power surges, spike and brown-outs are a nemesis to small refrigeration units. The capacitor for the compressor likey was affected and possibly the start components in general, especially if the unit was operating when the surge occured.

TV does not turn on by pushing the power button on TV or using the remote.

A dead unit is commonly caused by a bad main fuse (right off the AC input). A bad fuse can be caused by something as simple as a power surge or some component on the power supply could be toast. Switch mode power supplies can be a pain to troubleshoot, specifically this one. If you find a bad fuse, replace it. If the new fuse goes out. Go find yourself a replacement board. They should be cheap enough. Goodluck.

Hi My LG Flatron MDL L194WT-SF just stopped working. no power surge or power outages. Can this be repaired or is there an internal fuse that may have blown. it is just like new and hate that it failed....

They have an internal power adaptor which does contain a fuse. However the fuse is soldered to the board so you need soldering skills to change it. Also, if the internal fuse has gone then it's probably because another component such as the transformer has gone in which case it won't help.
Unless you know how to troubleshoot electronic boards a component level you're almost certainly out of luck here I'm afraid.

Instruction to replace fuse philips 32mt3305/17 quit working after house power surge wont turn on

The internal main A/C fuse is usually located within close proximity to the power cord entry point on the main PCB. So remove the back cover and follow the cord to something that looks like this.

No Power after an electical storm

It is very likely that a fuse has blown inside the unit. If you have warranty on the device you should get the manufacturer to replace it. However if it's out of warranty and your not afraid to open up the case of a DVD player you should be able to unplug the unit. Remove the screws and then look for a small glass type fuse located on the main board of the DVD player. It will have two tin ends and a glass tube in the middle. Remove it with a small pair of pliers being careful not crush the glass tube. Replace it with the same type of fuse with the correct voltage and amperage.

Power surge blowing fuses on amp when car is turned on.

the voltage regulator in the alternator or the capacitor is malfunctioning. get a multimeter on the battery when u start the car (before the capacitor) if it reads a large surge (something greater than 14 or 15 volts) then u may need a new amp, if not, then test it on the back end of capacitor to the chassie negative, see if u detect spike there.

Fuse

A schematic can be obtained on the internet or localy through a dealer channel.

As for your first question.

A glass fuse is a device which allows only a certan amount of power to flow through it.
it's a glass tube about 1 inch long and with a little wire of aluminum running through it and a aluminum metal cap on each end with the voltage and amps written on at least one end.

A fuse of this type sits in a tray that has two metal ends to hold the fuse in place.

Some of them are coated and light tan in color ( could be to prevent shattering )

Once the power level is exceeded the fuse gets too hot and burns up the filiment causing
an open circuit and stopping power flow.

A fuse of this type can be removed from it's try by using insulated gloves or
an insulated fuse removal tool to prevent shock and be replaced by an identical fuse
with the exact same voltate and current rating.

Once the fuse is removed from it's tray it can be tested with an Ohms meter
to determine if the fuse is actually open.

a glass type fuse in a television set will be located near the power chord
connection to the chasis ( main board )

A blown fuse is a sign that a power surge occured

1. If the power surge occured from getting too much power from the power cable side that plugs into
the wall thats good because chances are it just blew a fuse because of it.

2. If the power surge was the result of failure of a component deeper into the circuitboard replacing the fuse will not do any good and may blow again as soon as you turn on the power.

Shalom..
