Question about Leviton R01-PR180-1LI Decora 180 Degree PIR Motion Switch Ivory

1 Answer

I have installed a PR 180 at the top of the basement stars to turn on the light when someone enters, and a normal 3 way switch at the bottom. The idea was the lights come on when you step into the stairwell, but you turn the switch on when coming back up. However, after following the diagram, I find this: When the bottom mechanical 3 way switch is in one position (up), the light comes on when someone enters, and goes off based on the timer. If it is in the other position (down), the light does go off based on the timer setting, but comes back on a few minutes later, then off, then on, then.... This event repeats itself until you place the bottom switch back in the up position. Obviously, I am missing a big piece in how this should be wired. Has anyone else had this problem, and what is wrong?

While there are many ways to wire 3-way switches, the most common way is to bring a 2-wire/with ground HOT and neutral cable (from circuit breaker or source) into one switch box and a 2-wire/with ground LOAD cable (to light) into the other switch box. Then a 3-wire/with ground cable is ran between both switch boxes.

The PR 180 _must_ be installed at the switch box the has the cable that goes to the LOAD. I suspect that you have the PR 180 installed in the switch box that contains the HOT feed.

Unfortunately, the solution is to install the PR 180 at the downstairs location and have the normal 3-way switch at the top.

Another solution would be to install a Leviton 1PP15-1L at the switch box that has the HOT feed and a Leviton 1PP0R-1L at the switch box the has the LOAD cable. This, of course will result in a sensor at each location.

I need a wallplate with the duplex on the left and toggle (for garbage disposal) on the right. I can only find the opposite configuration. Does this combination exist somewhere?

Rotate the plate 180 degrees so top is now the bottom, and bottom is top..
Then duplex will be on opposite side of switch.
I think that will fix the problem. Add a comment.

Leviton PR180 is a single-pole or 3-way motion activated light switch.
Resources:
http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?item=452283§ion=10892&minisite=10026

The green connects to bare ground wire.
The yellow-red is not used EXCEPT to replace 3-way switch. Cap off yellow-red wire when wiring single-pole.

Your single pole switch has two black wires.
One black wire is Hot from breaker, and the other black wire goes to Load.
Turn power on, and test each black wire to bare copper wire. Tester lights up on Hot wire.

Hot wire connects to PR180 black wire.
Load wire connects to RR180 red wire

Hello, When you installed the Key core, you probably turned the core 180 degrees off. There is also the spring release at the bottom of the Ignition switch. You may not have fully seated the core into the Ignition switch.

The part on the bottom was connected to the Ignition switch through the column. You may have to pull the Ignition switch again or at least remove the plastic steering column cover to align the bottom switch with the top where it connects to the Ignition key.

The lower switch you replaced is part of the Interlock system. It makes sure the trans gear is correct(in Park or Neutral) and that the brake pedal is pushed. If this is a stick-shift then there can be a switch on the clutch pedal. But that switch would not physically keep the key from turning.

Depending on the connection for the Ignition switch, you need to see if the attachment for the rod or cable which runs through the column is set 180 degrees off. Sometimes with having to disconnect and reconnect the Battery to get the electric releases to allow turning of the key, you can get out of sync with the column rod or cable.

That could happen and you installed the parts on the wrong side of the attachments, once you powered up the system, it locked you out.

No tail lights or rear blinkers work. Need wiring diagram to get to problem

Where your turn signal handle is located there is a switch that is known as a multifumction switch. Sometimes one of the wires pulls out and you have to install it or replace the switch. Remove the cover going around the steering column by removing the screws that are accessable through the small holes in the bottom cover of the column. Usually phillips or star shaped screw drivers. The switch is the one that the turn signal handle goes into. Itis heid into place with 2 or 3 screws.Your tail lights and brake lights go through this switch. Hope this helps leave comment

The Leviton PR180 is a motion detector, or occupancy detector.
It senses infrared heat from a person's body.

I am looking at the manual from Leviton.

Maybe this will help:
There is a small adjustment screw under the wallplate where you can adjust light sensitivity.
Use fingernail or small screwdriver.
Turn control towards the "-" sign and lights will turn on in 'less lighting conditions'

I will be here for a few more hours.

If you squeese the handle put your head near the badge you should hear one micro switch operating the window and a noise like well hard to explain but its a solenoid operating the rear latch after the window drops, you can get the inside panel off bit hard with door locked; at bottom of door panel is four philips screws take them out and then the panel pulls from the bottom up,cut round water shredder and you can operate latch manually to get it open then check to see if micro switch in handle is working its not a rear wiper fault or window fault as they work, the relay for the rear door latch and the rear window are behind the offside rear quarter panel 3 connectors for rear door electrics, the relays are up by the seat at top,its not normally a relay issue either rear door latch solenoid or micro switch in back handle but rule out the handle as window works.

Disconect battery and wait 5 min and try again it worked on mine.

Hope helps.

Unfortunately you cannot use two PR180-1LA's for what you want to do. :-( There is only one correct installation:
One PR180-1LA needs to be installed at the switch box which contains the cable that goes to the light (load). That is a must. One then installs a regular 3-way switch at the switch box which contains the cable with the hot from the breaker (line or source).

If you reverse the sensor location you will need 4 wires between the switches, which is not usual practice, as the bare grounding wire is not permitted to carry current per National Electric Code rules.

If you want a sensor at both locations you need to install a IPP15-1L at the switch box that has the cable going to the light (load). One must then install a IPP0R-1L at the switch box that has the cable with hot from the breaker (line or source).

I have power running to a 2 switch gangbox. Each

As long as the power is running from the breaker panel to the switches rather than the fixtures then it should be pretty simple.

1. Run a new 2 conductor wire from the existing box to the new box at the top of the stair.

2. Install a switch at the top of the stairs.

3. Disconnect the hot wire that is running to the two existing switches and connect it to one of the two conductors running to the top of the stairs.

4. Connect the remaining conductor on the wire going to the top of the stairs to the two existing switches.

Note that if you want to be able to use the Dimmer function from the top of the stairs this will be much more complicated. You will need to put two new switches at the top of the stairs, run more wire, the new switches will need to be 3 way dimmers and the existing switches will almost certainly need to be replaced as well. The wiring will also be much more complicated.

Water backing up into my basement ejector pump during heavy rain

I have seen this problem several times before. The ejector pump should be in a separate crock in the ground by itself. Someone has installed it in the crock that is meant to pump out drain water. Probably the result of adding a bathroom in the basement. You need to bust another hole in the floor and install a separate crock to solve this problem correctly. If it just started happening go outside and look at he gutters to make sure water is running away from the house and not up against the foundation.
