I suggest installing an in-line check valve on the feed line to the Culligan filter and resetting the meter on the filter system. You may be getting water water feeding back out of the filter system when other faucets are run causing the meter alarm.

How do you change a culligan water softener filter

The filter housing will have either a shut off valve before and after the housing or a valve on top of the housing that turns (Black).
Shutoffs before and after.
1. Turn both valves off
2. Push the "red button" on top of filter housing and hold to relieve the pressure off housing.
3. Unscrew housing to the left (lefty loosey, Righty tighty) You should have a housing wrench.
4. Remove filter, clean housing, lubricate the o-ring with silicone lubricant.
5. Replace filter, Screw housing back on (Hand tighten only)
6. Open inlet valve (slightly) while holding down the "red button" to relieve air in housing.
7. Open inlet and outlet valves and you are back in business.

PS if the housing is very difficult to remove.
1. Shut off inlet valve
2. Open the nearest cold water faucet and let it run until no water
3. Shut off outlet and repeat procedure as above

Removing Whole House Filters

Frequently whole house filters can be very difficult to remove. The canisters become almost impossible to loosen, even after pressing the pressure relief valve and using a housing wrench. The most common reasons for this are the housing was put back on with the housing wrench, debris in the housing threads and a bad pressure relief valve.

How to remove a stuck filter housing.
1. Turn off the incoming water.
2. By-Pass the Softener
3. Go to the nearest cold water faucet, open it and let the water run until pressure drops significantly.
4. Turn the water off at outlet of filter (If housing has shutoff on top off head, turn this off now).
5. Press and hold the pressure relief button to relieve pressure further.
6. Use filter wrench to unscrew housing (If it still won't loosen repeat steps 2-5).
7. After removing, clean housing thoroughly, make sure threads are clean on filter bowl and housing head. Lubricate threads of housing and head with plumbers faucet lube or silicone.
8. Clean and lubricate the O-Ring (replace the O-ring every couple years or if housing leaks after screwing back on). It helps to flip the O-Ring over a couple times per year.
9. Replace the cartridge filter and screw the housing back on.
10. Turn the incoming water on slowly while holding the pressure relief button down until all air is purged.
11. Open outlet and let water run to cold water faucet until all air is purged.
12. Put softener back in service.

IMPORTANT! Only tighten the filter housing by HAND!
NEVER use the housing wrench to tighten the housing.

I hope these tips help you with the angst of removing stubborn filter housings.

Here are instruction to remove the filter housing. This is from my tips posting. Culligan filter housings are just Pentek/Pentair water filter housings and these tips apply to virtually any filter housing.

The water pressure in the entire house is very poor. If more than one water tap is open the water trickles out. The house has a Culligan Water Softner system. Is there a filter or some other home...

First make sure all the filters on all faucets (kitchen, bathrooms and even the dish washer and washer) are clean and not clogged, sometimes on areas with hard water you will experience sand and minerals to accumulate and clogged all filters. If all filter are clean with no minerals, then your problem could be the culligan filter, ask your sales rep to perform an inspection for minerals on all ending lines.

Hope this clear up your water lines. It happened to me.

How to open the housing on big blue 20 to change filter

The best way to do this is to shut the incoming water supply off. Open the closest cold water faucet to relieve the water pressure. Shut off the outlet valve. You will need a BB wrench. Push the RED pressure relief button on top of filter as you turn clockwise on the wrench. Lubricate the o-ring with silicone lube, clean filter housing and re-install filter. Only tighten housing hand tight.

Removing cover from big blue 10 water filtering system

The best way to get it off is as follows.
1. Turn the incoming water off.
2. Open the closest cold water faucet and let it run until pressure is relieved.
3. Close the outlet of pre-filter housing.
4. Push the pressure relief button and hold it down until no more water comes out.
5. Use the filter housing wrench to unscrew housing.
6. If it is still hard to take off repeat steps 2-5.
7. Clean the housing and o-ring, lubricate the threads of housing and head with silicone lube or plumbers faucet lube. Lubricate the o-ring with same.
8. Replace filter
9. Only tighten the by hand NOT with wrench.
10. Turn water back on and hold pressure relief button to bleed off air.

The number one reason for filter housings being so hard to get off is people tightening the filter housing with a wrench when re-installing it.

Turn the water off IN & OUT, (If this is a Culligan pre-filter it may have the shutoff valve on top), Press the red pressure relief button and hold it down for several seconds. Use the wrench provide and unscrew housing. Clean out the housing, lubricate the o-ring with silicone lube, replace filter and housing. Only tighten the housing by hand. Turn incoming water back on. How to replace filter on an undersink culligan reverse osmosis filter

Turn off the incoming water supply, turn off the valve on storage tank, open the RO faucet and let pressure off. Have a pan ready, remove the sediment pre-filter housing and post-carbon housing.
Use latex gloves when changing filters, add 1 tsp bleach to each housing and clean them thoroughly before installing filters. Make sure all bleach is rinsed out before installing filters. Turn the water back on to system, turn the tank back on and run 2 tanks of water out before using water again.
