It is possible the fridge went through a defrost cycle and it is the water expelled as a result of that. There is a tray at the base under the compressor in the back and normally it is meant to collect water and evaporate out. But if there was too much condensation inside the fridge there could be an overflow of the tray.

I would get the door seals checked to reduce condensation in fridge if this is happening consistently.

Hi! Please try to check the auto defrost button. If it is activated water will come out from the back bottom but will be stuck on the water catch and should be nowhere else. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Why is there water on top shelf in fridge

I would guess the fridge is not set level. A small amount of water is normally meant to condense and run down the back of the fridge and then evaporate outside the fridge.

If either the fridge is leaning forward slightly or if anything on the top shelf is touching the back of the fridge, then instead of running down the back of the fridge water may instead end up on the top shelf.

Assuming the fridge is still working in every other respect then this is what I would suspect.

Eaton's Viking Model 1266F fridge leaking defrost water

Your idea/plan sounds pretty good. There is a drip pan under the fridge right? it might be a good idea to run it into that. Good luck!

What causes my food to freeze in my refrigerator?

Is your thermostat working correctly? meaning it does turn off the unit. if it does let it off for a few minutes then slowly start to move to #1 and you should hear a click let it run in that setting and see if temperature is ok let it run for about 12 hours and check your temp. if ok just let it there if still freezes you need to replace the thermostat also make sure the fan cooling the compressor is also clean.

Fridge noise cutting out

To be honest it sounds to me like your fridge may be ok?

To extract the heat from within the fridge interior a compressor (motorised pump) moves gas around a series of pipes around the cabinets insides. This movement of gas causes heat to be picked up and taken away externally to the outside world. When the fridge temperature reaches a predetermined level (around 5C) the compressor shuts down and all is quite. The sound of running water you hear is the coolant gas changing state from gas to liquid and running through the coolant pipes. If the fridge is doing it's job and keeping the content cool then I wouldn't worry. One of the reasons you are probably noticing this sound is because it is a table top fridge. Built in fridges make the same noises but you don't really hear them so much because of the cupboards screening the sound.

Water in the fruit and vegetable draweres

You might have the frig. temperature set too low. Set it at 38 deg. check actual temp. with gage. What happens is ice builds up in the drain tube that runs down to the bottom when the fridge defrosts therefore causing water to run into the veg. drawers. Ice buildup is preventing the water from running out at the bottom where it should. Just raise your fridge temperature a little and the problem should go away. Hope this helps.

Issue with Kenmore Refrigerator/Freezer

ok,1st check on fridge side toward upper back of the top and feel for air coming thru, and there is another one down possibly behind crisper .I had this same deal. Had to do total defrost,, put food in cooler,, theres two blower fans in these types of fridges,,one in the bottom back,, and one in the back of the frezzer,, I used an old hair dryer and let it blow warm to top interior of frezzer,, careful not to let any cords hang/drop in any water!!,ok once done dry out as much water as possible, turn fridge on set both controls to 4,when fridge kicks on do the feel test,, you may need to close the frezzer door, air should be felt near top inside of fridge,if so than shut fridge side and feel inside frezzer near bottom and air should be felt,, side-by-side need to circulate air from frezzer to fridge, then back to frezzer

Hello there and thank yuou for choosing fixya
Yes we have seen this problem and it can be frustrating to solve
Normally this ends up being the cycle timer itself that is bad and needs to be replaced
Also i have seen where the wires have gotten wet and causes the unit to short cycle so you may want to look at theese too
Another thing that can go out is the thermostate when this goes out it cant sense the temperature of the water and will shut down in a couple of minutes
Also you will want to make sure that all of the filters are clean
And lastly ensure that your hot water temperature is at least 150 deg
cause these are sensitive to temperature and will shut down due to temperature not being high enough ok so if you are doing a load of laundry at the same time it may be effected by that too .
So please check out each one of thesse and see if you can have the parts mentioned tested
If you think you can test these parts let me know and i will tell you how to test each one of them ok?
Best regards Mike

Water pooling at the bottom of kenmore fridge

I had a Kenmore fridge - about 20 years old when I replaced it this year. It used to do the exact same thing especially in warm/hot weather. What it is is the water from the freezer defrosting. There should be something on the back near the top, inside the fridge sticking out - a tiny little tray sticking out and it may also be part of supporting one of the shelves, I can't remember. Anyways, water from the defrost pools in there and is supposed to evaporate, but it gets clogged with gunk and the water spills out and runs down the back of the fridge down to the bottom. Get a pipe cleaner or something and poke it into this hole and clean out the pipe to the hole isn't blocked. This is all inside the fridge, not outside, on the back panel outside. That's the best I can do to describe the solution - it's an easy fix you can do yourself. Good luck!
