  1. Connect an external monitor, check if display is OK.
  2. If Display is OK, no horizontal lines then your LCD need to replace.

Take it back to the retailer. Unless it is more than a year old. The graphics chip or screen has failed.

Hi there.

I suggest you see my tip on how to fix the lines on your monitor. The fix for horizontal lines is the same for vertical lines. You can read my tip here: http://www.fixya.com/support/r9352105-fix_colored_vertical_lines_lcd_display

Horizontal lines on screen HPCQ509

Lines on the screen are usually caused by a hardware malfunction in either the lcd, lcd cable or the GPU.

Do the lines appear immediately after power up the computer? Or only when Windows starts?

Can you hook the laptop up to an external monitor to test?

How long have you owned this laptop?

A horizontal (2mm wide gray line) appears along my screen steady.

try plugging into an external monitor.. if the screen looks ok then it is most likely the laptop LCD screen is bad.. had the same thing on a HP laptop .. replaced the screen and all was well again with the world...

Hp pavilion f1523 lcd monitor

You are not alone with this problem. Some lines (like mine) run vertically rather than horizontally. The solution - sue HP. These screens have a known fault ie the Nvidia graphics chip is known to be the culprit. The company knows all about this issue but expect us to pay to put it right - sue them, you can do it online for around £35 (UK).

Horizontal lines on the monitor

You can try connect the notebook to any external desktop monitor available and check the display. If you don't find the lines in external monitor, you can confirm that it is a LCD issue.

If you don't have any external Monitor with you, you can start the notebook and keep on tap F10. You will get BIOS Setup Utility. You can check whether the lines are present or not. If you find the same lines in BIOS setup utility screen, the defnitely we can confirm that it is a hardware issue with the notebook LCD. At that point, you can use your notebook factory warrenty and send the notebook for free mail in service.

If you don't find the lines in BIOS, then it is a software issue. Just reinstall the Video Drivers and that may resolve the issue.
