Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I use a laptop HP G60 in a sailing boat in France. Difficulty is that the Orange France TX aerials are rarely producing a strong enough WIFI signal Inconsequence I have bought an6dBi Antenna with base to place in cockpit under spray hood when required together with a "high power 54Mbps USB wifi access point with detachable 5dBi Antenna. When plugging in the dongle via usb I expected it a substantial improvement and for its pilot light to light up. The shop who sold it to me say that it is not working because " I have not isolated the internal aWIFI aerial in the G60 laptop. Is this true or should such a dongle light up notwithstanding? Is it is so how do I isolate the internal aerial on a temporary basis? I cannot seem to find any literature telling me hoe to effect this. With thanks Colin Adams

To put it simply what you bought is practically useless - the 1dB gain over your original antenna is negligible.. And the fact that it's not attached outside at the highest point of the boat hasn't helped.
What you need is a much more efficient antenna with a much longer cable that is directional and oriented towards the most powerful hotspot in the region. And you don't even need to pay for it, you can make it yourself as shown here

BTW the internal antenna from the laptop doesn't have any effect but it makes the managing of the wireless harder if it active so just deactivate it with the toggle button on the case.

free view or other device. freeview signal is not strong enough. if you have a booster on aerial change it for a new one. after awhile they weaken the signal and not boost the signal to the tv.also check cables. and aerial if looks damaged.

Why is my wifi signal not that strong

place your wifi router at the highest possible point on the wall. if it is still weak, see if you can adjust the tx signal strength on your router (some models allow that). post more details about your router so we can try to elp.

I need a user manual for my badger, dynacraft mkii bait boat

not much to it really .Left toggle forward for speed (get used to running boat slow before you drop bait, takes a bit of practise).Left toggle back opens hopper to drop bait and rig.(Adjust trimmer nearby so motor not running when toggle not operated, usually about 3/4 up) Right toggle for direction left/right (adjust trimmer nearby if boat sails left or right) Get used to just a quick flick of the toggle to direct the boat. Leave handset aerial one section short of fully up in case you sail out of range.Hope this helps

My laptop is connected to the internet but everytime i try to go online it gives an error message of: the internet explorer has stopped working, window is checking to see if it can solve it. whats wrong...

How are you connected to the internet? Sometimes when you're connected to the internet via wifi, the icon can show that you have a strong signal and that you're connected when you actually aren't. Optimum wifi does this often. Turn off your wifi, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
