Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable. Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.) Wiring A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.

Dryer gets hot on the outside of machine

Clean the lint out of the pipe that goes out side, also the grate on the outside, If that dosent do it take the back off and see where the lint comes out, take that apart and clean the lint out. I have had this problem before and just recently. The dryer has a saftey fuse, when the dryer gets too hot to shut off, thats why your clothes are not drying. 1st try the pipe that goes outside including the end(outside).

Timed dry dosent seem to work as well. other settings woork but not as well as used too.

Are we talking about clothes not drying ? If we are you need to check your lint duct for a restriction not just the hose behind the unit but all the way to the outside vent.turn on unit go outside to vent should feel a good flow of warm air.Over time these ducts get restricted and it happens slowly then one day you relize its taking a lot longer to dry than it used to.. To dry clothes properly you need more than just heat ,you need good air circulation to remove the moisture otherwise all you end up with is warm moist clothing......Hope this helps Good Luck

I have a whirlpool dryer and it heats up but dosent dry clothes

you have a blockage in the vent system. If the clothing is hot and wet when you remove them then there is a lint blockage either at the lint trap in the machine or at the exhaust hose on the back of the drier

Dryer wont dry clothes

Vents can fool you sometimes they seem to be ok but still cause problems. Try running with vent unhooked from machine one time and see if it works ok.
Check for leaks air leaks around the door or anywhere else.

Electric dryer not drying clothes

The electric dryer requires 220 volts to dry clothes but only 110 volts to turn the drum .reset your circuit breaker even if it looks ok ,if that dosent work, unplug from the wall and check where the plug wire goes into the back of the dryer and look for loose or broken wires.

Dryer is slow to dry clothes, takes 2-3 cycles of 45-50 mins.

Check to see if there is a built up of lint in the exhaust.
Keeping the correct temperature at all times inside the dryer ensures that the clothes will dry efficiently. If clothes are not drying then inspect the door seal for signs that it may be worn or damaged.

A blower wheel that is not firmly attached to the drive motor can slip and therefore not move air fast enough to properly dry clothes or even reduce airflow to the point where the high limit thermostat may trip and turn off the heat circuit. A loose blower wheel will usually make a rumbling noise as well. Inspect the blower wheel to make sure that it is tight to the motor shaft.

You have a classic air flow obstruction. To prove this phenomenon, remove the vent from the back of the dryer and try drying a load. If issue is resolved, then you must rectify the vent issue. Also, an internal air obstruction is less likely to be the cause, but not knowing how long this installation has been unmaintained, this too should be investigated.
