System restore displays no restore points, to create open system protection. when i go there, your computer is running in a limited diagnostic state. if you use systems restore in this limited state, you cannot undo the restore operation.

any changes to windows registry that are automatically done such as Windows background updates will make restore un-useable. Microsoft should provide this warning, maybe they do but I have not seen it. Try disabling auto-updates, but first you must get back to "...set computer back to factory default".

yes lina i have changed boot order many times, but at the end i installed it from the market by paying monye, the actual reason was the CD# 7 which i made it during backup process whas missing some data during restoration.

Power connection to computer came out during shutdown yesterday. Today, turning on, it will not boot up.


You are going to need a clean boot up disk. You will have to get one mailed to you or you will have to use another computer to download one. This will get you back into a point that you can do a windows restore. This is going to get rid of all programs and start you fresh. I do, however, feel that you disk drive is going out or already shot. You should do a Chkdsk on it. (check disk). This will tell you if it is a hard drive error or not.

Use System Restore to Undo Changes if Problems Occur

Windows XP Professional makes it easier to resolve problems if they occur in your system. You can use System Restore to remove any system changes that were made since the last time you remember your computer working correctly. System Restore does not affect your personal data files (such as Microsoft Word documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or e–mail) so you won’t lose changes made to these files. Windows XP creates “restore points” every day, as well as at the time of significant system events (such as when an application or driver is installed). You can also create and name your own restore points at any time. Creating a restore point can be useful any time you anticipate making changes to your computer that are risky or might make your computer unstable. If something goes wrong, you select a restore point and Windows XP undoes any system changes made since that time.
When you run System Restore, a calendar is displayed to help you find restore points. If you don't use your computer every day, some days might not have any restore points. If you use your computer frequently, you might have restore points almost every day, and some days might have several restore points.
To create a Restore Point
1. Access the System Restore Wizard through Help and Support Center. (Click Start, and then click Help and Support. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Using System Restore to undo changes, and then click Run the System Restore Wizard.
2. Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
3. In the Restore point description box, type a name to identify this restore point. System Restore automatically adds to this name the date and time that this Restore Point is created.

  • To cancel restore point creation and return to the Welcome to System Restore screen, click Back.
  • To cancel restore point creation and exit the System Restore Wizard, click Cancel.

To view or to return to this restore point, from the Welcome to System Restore screen of the System Restore Wizard select Restore my computer to an earlier time. Video card has a problem because windows cannot load the drivers (code 31)


Error code 31 is an error displayed in the device manager when the drivers are messed up. "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)." This code will appear when the graphic card drivers are having issues.Protecting Drivers

To protect your computer system and drivers, always create a restore point before downloading or updating any program.
Right click "My Computer" and select "Properties."
Look under the "System Protection" tab in the System Properties popup box.

Click on the "Create" bottom to set a Restore Point when the computer is healthy and running well. Good computer maintenance means setting a point once a month.

Name the point with a phrase that has meaning to you, like "before driver update."
If a corrupt driver sneaks onto your computer, this Restore Point might be your last defense before you have to re-install the entire operating system.
Viewing

This error code will only appear in the Device Manager.
Right click "My Computer" and select "Properties" from the menu.

Click "Device Manager" and expand "Display adapters."
Right click on the graphics card and choose "Properties."

Under the "General" tabs is the Device status notification box.
This is where the error message will appear.

Driver Update When you're updating or downloading a graphics card driver, the drive might not install properly. Corrupt files will cause drivers to not load and the message will appear.

When there are major issues with the graphics card drivers, a system restore is one option to fix the problem.

The computer looks for any entry containing "System Restore."

Click "System Restore" under the Programs listing.
This will start the program, and you can restore the computer back to a point when the graphics card drives were working.

System Restoring Windows 7

1. Open the Start Menu.

A) Click on All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and System Restore.


2. Open the Control Panel (All Items View).

A) Click on the Recovery icon.
B) Click on the Open System Restore button.


A 'System Restore' window will appear. Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time'


A) Click on the Next button


Now you will find a window with Dates, Description and Type,

Note: It is better if you could remember from which date you are facing the issue, try to select a date prior to that date.


The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.


Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start. Click on the Finish button and windows will take a reboot.

First go safe mode by pressing F8 key when your computer start.
Then windows run in safe mode click run and type msconfig then enter a winodws apear to show some lists choose startup items and disable all startup iteams and reboot it and now check it is working ok or not ?

My pc has a problem


You didn't mention what os you are using xp or vista. What software are you talking about that it came with? also Norton Anti virus is known to cause problems with windows restore. So taking a wild guess check out these steps

Many users have found that Norton 2006 and later, has been responsible for this error message. It seems there is a security feature in place that prevents outside programs from making system changes that would change Norton's files. To work around this issue, follow these instructions:

<>Temporarily shut down Norton:
  1. Start Norton
  2. Select Options>> Norton Anti-Virus
  3. Select Miscellaneous from the right pane
  4. Scroll down the right pane and locate "How to protect my product"
  5. Uncheck the box titled: Turn protection on for my Symantec product
  6. Click OK
<>Run System Restore:
  1. Go to Start>> All Programs>> Accessories>> System Tools>> System Restore.
  2. Select the option: Restore my computer to an earlier time.
  3. Select a restore point to restore back to.
  4. Click OK
The restore operation will now start. Restart Windows when completed.

<>Turn Norton back on:
  1. Start Norton
  2. Select Options>> Norton Anti-Virus
  3. Select Miscellaneous from the right pane

Please select last known good configuration from the black screen if this doesnt work select safemode from that screen and restore your computer to earlier time when it was working fine,. please follow the steps below to restore your computer.
Use System Restore After you've decided to use System Restore to revert your system to a previous state, start the System Restore Wizard and follow the prompts. To use the System Restore Wizard, make sure you're logged on as an administrator, and then follow these steps:

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.

On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
3.
On the Select a Restore Point page, select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to, as shown in Figure 2, and then click Next.

Scheduled Tasks starts each time you start Windows XP and runs in the background.

System Restore...


Did you set a restore point lately. You do need to do that occasionally

(for example after removing a virus)

Maybe your restore point is not valid anymore

you can do Your first port of call for System Restore problems should be the System

Restore Troubleshooter, which you'll find here. However, it's also possible

that one of your Restore points has become corrupt, in which case you'll
need to disable System Restore. This will delete all existing Restore points

and then re-enable it. To do so, right-click My Computer on the Start menu

or desktop and choose Properties -> System Restore tab. Tick the 'Turn off

System Restore on all drives' and click Apply - you'll be told that all

existing Restore points will be deleted, so click Yes, at which point the

Restore points will be removed. Now remove the tick and click Apply again to

re-enable it.



You can now test that System Restore is working properly by creating a new

Restore Point and then immediately attempting to restore your computer to

that point in time. Hopefully, now you'll be successful
