My HP Pavilion ZD8000 does not recognize the digital media slots memory cards. Is there anything I can do to update it or turn it on? It flashes green when something gets plugged in but doesn't read the card at all.

The value is 3. Is there anything else I can do?

  • Anonymous Aug 21, 2010

    check the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBTOR

    follow the step from 3.

if still not working then need to chek the hardware.

before checking the hardware check with another SD or Memory card which works in other computer. there may be problem with the card.

My advice is to buy a external card reader, it will be cheap.

  • matthew_umle Aug 21, 2010

I followed your steps and there is no USBTOR, only USBSTOR and the value is 3. Could this be a problem?

I have an external already that I've been using. Just always wondered why it didn't work.

Alright. Thank you for all of your help. It's an older computer going on 7 years now. I'll talk to the service center when I get a chance if they even support this computer anymore. Take care of yourself!

How do I install a new memory card?

Thats real easy one, open up the Flap covering the RAM underneath the PC, you will see a "Strip" of RAM, carefully pop that out, take care to not touch the Gold Fingers, now have a look at the Description & Numbers on it, now take that strip with you, to the "Memory Shop" :) and select another Strip (Called a DIMM) that is compatible with it. Now simply clip them back into the slots where you removed the first one, they can only go in one way, and can put any DIMM, anywhere, and replace the flap. Turn on the PC, it will automatically "Find" the new Ram & just work.

My hp pavilion zd8290ea does not read read cards higher than 2gig

Have you verified that the card reader is recognized and the driver is the correct one in the Hardware Manager? If yes than most likely it's broken. You can usually replace it on HP's.

How does the media card reader work on the side of the hp pavilion dv4. It is supposed to allow for a ms/pro but it just kind of falls in. It almost looks like an adapter is supposed to fit in the slot

The Digital Media Slot supports the following digital card formats:
● Memory Stick (MS)
● Memory Stick Pro (MSP)
● MultiMediaCard (MMC)
● Secure Digital Input/Output (SD I/O)
● Secure Digital (SD) Memory Card
● xD-Picture Card (XD)
● xD-Picture Card (XD) Type H
● xD-Picture Card (XD) Type M

Here's how to use the memory card reader:
