Question about Philips Televison & Video

Open Question

I have a Philips 42pf9631d/10. The TV works great, the problem is that when I switch on with the remote it often shows a green light then red which continually blinks. If I swith off the power the red light blinks up to 5 times slowly followed by three quick blinks then a quick amber light. Sometime this can happen 2 or 3 times before the set powers up properly. I also find that it skips several channels when doing this. I have bought the unit second hand I find that the power button at lower right side has been pushed in and will not come back out. I think it will need a new button panel, but any other advice will be greatfully received. Thanks Ian Wason

SOURCE: TV will not turn on, the light goes from green to red.

I own the same model. You have 1-2 Blown Capacitors. Take off the back cover, And look towards the center of the main power board. Look towards the center of this, and there are 2 capacitors side by side. You should see them swollen at the tops, even maybe a little black residue that has come out. I soldered on 2 new ones, and bingo! I would suggest replacing them both.

SOURCE: Red LED blinking after turn on the TV (Philips Plasma 42PF9631D

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

SOURCE: LG 42 LCD no sound or picture

Did anyone find out the solution for this??????? I have the exact same problem with my LG 32 LCD. I only had it for a year and a half, and the green light blinks a few times and it shows no picture. Not even a red light when the tv is off. The same thing happened a couple weeks ago and by some miracle it started working again.

Look at the power supply first, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

cireric13,

Your most likely problem is bad capacitors in the power supply. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r7490709-plasma_or_lcd_turns_momentarily_shuts which explains how to check the unit and where to get the replacement parts.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating and testimonial.

One minute its good, the next i get nothing.

There is a eletronics parts thats has a cold solder on it. Maybe there is a cable or wire is barely touching on the connector inside the main pcb board. See technician to check your tv. Don't let this problem will continue, bacause some of the electronics will be damage.

7 red flashing lights, won't power up..

Check the power board for capacitors with the tops bulged up. They are 3300uf 10v. There are either 2 or 4 of them depending on your set.
