Question about Behringer Europower Pmp5000 Powered Mixer Pmp5000

1 Answer

We are having problems with a Behringer PMP5000 board. We have the switch setting on Mon1/Mono. We can get sound out of the monitor output, but the mono output is almost silent. Do you have suggestions for troubleshooting? What additional information can I provide? Thanks! SC

It is NOT clear what configuration you have set up and what you consider the MONO output is, whether it is the power amp MONO side output or the line level MONO 1/4 inch jack on the top of the unit (this jack is NOT speaker output). If you can run normal stereo speakers using both sides of the power amp in the AB mode, the problems you are having is pilot error.

REMEMBER the main out 1/4 inch jacks are BALANCED TRS jacks... DO NOT put mono plugs into these.

A WARNING: If you use Speakon to 1/4 inch speaker cables, remember that the BARREL of side A is HOT, not the tip!!! You can fry the amp if you inadvertently ground that barrel someplace. (Side B has the barrel grounded) This information is NOT readily available in the manual and results in many a blown amp. They do this to implement the "Bridged" mode easily.

I have schematics and can unravel most any problem you are having.

Somehow I posted this same problem twice, once as PMP5000 and once as PMP3000. I will post this same response to both posts.
It is for a PMP5000, and I figured out the problem, but I'm not clear if I am connecting things as you would advise.
I have the amp mode set to Mon1/Mono, and have speakon adapters in both connections in the back with 1/4 inch cables plugged in. We have overhead speakers connected to the Mono side and stage speakers connected to the monitor side.
Someone changed a bunch of settings on me. I fixed them all except for the "mono fader" switch, but I found it and turned it off and now I'm back where I was.
I don't have any speakers connected to any of the top jacks, so I don't have any other amps.
Some of your other posts gave me some ideas to troubleshoot, and that is how I found the switch that I didn't originally see.
So I consider this issue solved, but would welcome any suggestions you have about changing our setup regarding main speakers, monitors, and the use of the mono output. Thanks!

It sounds like your configuration is correct now...

DO HEED my warning about shorting the barrel of a 1/4 inch coming from the A side amp.

ALSO be VERY careful of intermittent speaker connections...

There is a slight design flaw in the amp involving marginal insulation between layers of the multi-layer circuit board in the power amp section. If the load connections break while under use, you can have smoke and sparks... I have fixed several of these now that had the problem. The result can be a destruction of the power supply and/or the amp module involving replacing about $50 worth of parts and MUCH labor including grinding out burned circuit board.

NEVER REPLACE A FUSE in this unit. Take it for repair immediately if the fuse blows!!!!!!! Replacing the fuse and trying again burns up more parts and will never bring back operation safely.

When I hook up my passive mains and monitors in the mono1/mono mode....mains on B and Monitors on A outputs I don't seem to have much output volume on the mains.....my monitors are okay but main sliders...

Please read my tip on fixya regarding a HAZARD of PMP mixers when using Speakon to 1/4 inch speaker cables. Essentially, the barrel of the 1/4 inch on A channel is the "hot" and one had better never let it touch a grounded point.

Now to your problem...You may have to run the MAIN sliders near the unity setting (zero Db).

It is important to set the trims correctely. For each of the inout channels, push the PFL button for the channel down and set the trim control so LED display is just below the clipping point at maximum input for the channel.

Ideally you would like the channel sliders to be in the vicinity of unity gain when system is balanced. Running the sliders way down results in a poor signal to noise ratio. Next you adjust the channel monitor knobs to set the monitor mix. These should be about 12 o'clock if possible to get decent signal to noise ratio.

For the MON/Mon1 mode, do NOT use the "Surround" simulator OR the "Speaker processor" ... make sure those swithces are off. You will probably want to PAN the channels fully to the MAIN side "B" which MAY be the reason your level seems low.

Remember the individual channels are about 400 Watts and 600 peak. Frankly myself I prefer to use both MAIN channels to the main speakers and use an external amp for the monitors OR use powered monitors for monitor use.

How do i hook up my jbl-jrx112m monitors to my pmp6000 so i can control sound volume,i have sound but only main control not monitors

You have to make a choice... you can tie two main speakers to the "B" channel and the two monitor speakers to the "A" channel.
The speaker configuration slide switch is set to MON1/MONO. The main slider controls the volume of the mains and the MON1 slider controls the level of the monitors in conjuction with the rotary MON1 knobs for each channel.
Each output should not be loaded heavier than 4 ohms. This would be a max of two 8 ohm speakers for each output.

My pmp6000 wont work in mon1/ mono mode. I have one speskon channel going to two mains and the other to two monitors Can't get sound.

OK... from the schematics it appears that when in mon1/mono mode you use ONLY the MON1 gain controls, including the channel MON1's and the MON1 slider. Make sure you have each of those turned up as needed. In this mode, MON2,s and the MON2 slider are unused. The MONO slider controls the MAIN output.

Suddenly the monitor one output jack has no sound. If I turn the Monitor one slider all the way up I can hear a very low sound with distortion. The monitor output works fine.

Make sure the appropriate channel rotary knob MON1 knob is turned up for the channels you want into MON1. ALSO test other channels if they can be sent to MON1. The MON jacks are TRS with the tip as the hot and the sleeve as resistor to ground.

Hopefully you have used good practice and have ALWAYS powered whatever you are driving from the MON1 out from the same receptacle as the PMP5000. If not, ground bounce MAY have destroyed the driver in thee PMP5000. They USUALLY don't tell you these things in the user manuals, so it is up to us electricaal engineers to educate.

FIRST plug in a set of headphones and see if sound comes out (it will only be one side and fairly low volume, usually the left). If it does, then cabling and whatever amp you have for the MON1 has a problem. I have schematics and can help you troubleshoot a bit.

Also PLEASE read the tip I have posted on here about a grounding hazard of the A channel when using Speakon to 1/4 inch cables.

I have a Pmp5000 889406987784 Eurowpower PMP5000 1200-Watt 20-Channel Mixer and Speaker Output A has no output. What has happened?

Usual problem is the Channel A amplifier has burned and blown the switching transistors. Usually an internal board arc occurs and unless very skilled at board work of clearing the burned area and replacing the components you are better to replace the HCA2400 amplifier module... about $160

Do you mean the SPEAKER mono output or the top mounted 1/4 inch jacks?

The A side power amp is used to drive monitor speakers and the B side the mains.

All other connnections of speakers require amplifier OR powered/active speakers.

Please read a tip I just posted regarding a hazard of the Speakon to 1/4 inch cables when used with these PMP mixers.

If you are using your main speakers as stereo, then you will need either powered monitor speakers OR an additional seperate amp for them. The mon outputs on the mixer are LINE LEVEL and are not driven by a power amp. Use TRS (balanced) interconnect cables from these to POWERED monitor speakers.

You can parallel your two mains providing the parallel impedance is 4 ohms or greater (two 8 ohms in parallel at most). The the monitor speakers can be paralleled and the switch set to Main/Mon so that one side of the power amp drives the mains and the other drives the monitors.

To prevent damage to the mixer, make sure all speaker leads are secure before powering the system. Run the speaker leads through the handles of the speakers to prevent inadvertent unplugging due to personell tripping over cables.

DO NOT use the bridge mode in your use.

Hello; I have a used Behringer pmp5000 mixer. The

Without knowing how you have your monitors configured it is hard to analyze what you have posted.

In brief, SW3 on the schematic that selects MAIN L and MAIN R in the upper position, MAIN and MONITOR in the middle, and bridged in the lower is used to configure the internal amps.

In the upper position, the amp power outputs come from the mixed stereo bus and are simultaneously controlled as a stereo signal by the MAIN slider.

In the middle position MAIN and MONITOR, the left amp receives the signal from the mix bus and is controlled by the MAIN slider. The MONITOR output from the other side of the power amp is controlled ONLY by possibly the "MONO" slider.

The schematics are hard to decode and what is needed is a signal flow diagram.

For my uses, I don't try to use splitting the power amps between mains and monitor but prefer to use the mains together with SW3 in the upper position (Note your 27 may be refering to the user manual designation for same switch). I then use another small amp from the 1/4 inch MONITOR jacks whcih are under control of the MONITOR sliders.
Please note that the MIX for these two MONITOR channels is controlled by the MON1 and MON2 knobs for each channel.

With the AB switch at the center position Mon1/Main you control the volumes INDIVIDUALLY with the MON pot for each input that is a couple positions above each of the input sliders.

You want the mon1/mono setting. The center position of the slide switch to use each half of the power amp seperately. Then fiddle with the controls BOTH in the strips and the faders to get desired result.
