Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

How do I download pictures from my digital camera on to my lap top

Hi,
There are two ways to transfer photos from the camera to laptop .
One is through the memory card .You can remove the memory card from the camera and insert into the memory card slot in laptop .In laptop, you will see a prompt showing an external hard drive is detected . You just click it and it will open the folder containing the photos ,copy it into your location .
Similar procedure is followed when you transfer the photos through the cable . Connect the cable to your camera and other end to laptop .
In laptop, you will see a prompt showing an external hard drive is detected . You just click it and it will open the folder containing the photos ,copy it into your location .

Hope this helps .

I have a dsc-w150 digital camera, no usb cord. how can i transfer my pictures to laptop?

You'll need a card reader to transfer the data to your PC.
These days most laptops and printer has built in card reader. But since Sony camera's use memory stick, some of them don't support memory stick. So,
  • First check whether or not your printer or laptop has memory stick support, if has then use it to transfer you images. Otherwise you've to purchase a memory card reader with memory stick read support[should be available on any nearby electronic shop].
  • Then remove your memory stick from your camera and connect it with your laptop.
  • Open the memory card and copy your images.

I have pictures on my coolpix P80 that are showing on the camera, but they are not on the sandisc. Is there a way to transfer them from the camera to the disk? Help!!!!!! Jennifer

Hi,

Download your Nikon COOLPIX L18 User's Manual from this LINK. Read pages 75, 76, 89, and 90.
It will show you the steps in transferring/copying of pictures from the camera's internal memory into your memory card. Other functions are also available for reading.

I hope this works for you. Thanks for using Fixya!

Lines are shown when the picture is seen or downloaded on the PC - all across the photograph

If there are no distortions on the picture seen on the camera viewfinder then there is some issue with the picture manager software.
If the images seen on the PC are also showing clean pictures, then there fault on the transfer or the camera driver software.
Remove the SD card and insert into the PC using the card reader- use in any laptop- if the picture is clean , then uninstall the camera driver and reinstall, then connect to transfer. If the fault is seen the download another version from the camera support site to be installed.

Photos being transferred to computer lost connection during transfer. Now no photos show in the queue

A good reason to use the 'copy' function whle transferring. Doing this will preserve the pix in the camera memory until you are sure they actually arrived on your computer.
If you have a card drive, you might pull your memory card and plug it in directly to see what might remain there. It may come up as only a 'removable drive' that you can address as if it was any other.
