Question about Mitsubishi Televison & Video

Open Question

2002 Mitsubishi Model VS-60609 Projection TV When cold displays a "bowtie" shaped picture pushed in from top and bottom. All video text and graphics display all 3 colors separated from each other. If left On,video intermittently returns to normal and back to distorted by itself until after approx. 1 hour of flickeringin and out, it returns to normal and remains OK for remainder of use. Symptom then recurs when turned On the following day. Unit is cable connected but other connected TVs show no problem and use of external video inputs such as CD, camera pix, DVD will exhibit same symptom. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like bad convergence chip. I think you can get a kit to repair it at www.tvrepairkits.com

You need to be good with a soldering iron if you plan on doing this yourself.

SOURCE: my mitsubishi projection tv, ws55813, was losing

There is a hard reset you can try on this set--it is done with the Mitsubishi remote that came with the set.

Confirm actual model number and I will tell you how to try it. The set will shut off after the reset(not the reset button some of these sets have on the front) and come back on channel 3 in the air band--any labels for inputs will be replaced by original input numbers etc.

No guarantee this will fix your problem but it will return the set to the condition it was when new in the box.

Let me know if you want to try this.

Sounds like a Picture in Picture screen popping up, but if you do not have a signal from another tuner, it will be blank.

Try hitting the PIP button on your remote to see if it turns it off and on.
Plus go into the tv menu and find the PIP settings.

Left convergence on mitsu vs-60609

Convergence IC's inside of your TV are nearing end of the life. If during adjustments that you made Red and Blue was moving in all directions (left, right, down, up) than resistors and fuses still probably OK. IC's (part number will start with "STK" and they attached to huge aluminum radiators) have to be replaced and fresh heat sink compound have to be applied.
After that convergence adjustments should not be a problem. And color will stay together for another several years.
regards.
Russ.

Mitsubishi VS-60609 60 in. I get sound but no picture. Just a red, green and blue lines in the middle of screen. Looks like a hour glass shape.

That sounds like a bad vertical circuit. Do you know how to use a meter and solder? If so we can troubleshoot otherwise you will need to call a repairman. A good repairman should run you $300-$500 to repair this. Let me know what you would like to do!
