Hi there SmartAlec here. I am guessing that since you said you replaced the belt on your vacuum that it was actually really stretched or broken before. Assuming this is right I would say that either the clutch roller is actually faulty or there is a problem in the bearings of your brush roller. I have made a video to show you how to look for these problems. If you need parts for your Dyson DC07 check out vacuumspot or nelsonvacuums they both have a good range of dyson spares for purchase online. If this guide was helpful please take the time to leave a review of give it a thumbs up!.

Dyson DC07 belt change has resulted in very noisy vacuum!

Hi I agree with the first 2 solutions above but not the 3rd one.
If you have suction coming through the hose when the machine is in upright position then the u bend has nothing to do with this problem.

Right so ... The belt snapped.

The answer to you question is "why did the belt snap" its true that it could just be old age but its more likely to have been caused by a foreign object being sooked up.

How the belt/brushbar/motor interact

Your belt simply connects the motor to the brushbar know as Direct Drive. If an object get inside the space between the motor and the brushbar or if it can jam the brushbar then this will cause the rubber to burn. The motor will keep spinning and the belt wont be able to so will snap.

So its easy to see that the belt has snapped and people just think "'oh the belt has snapped"

You might wonder where im coming from here.

Anyway because the brushbar got jammed it may also have been buckled slighty either as a result of the foreign object causing it to stop suddenly from spinning at high speed or/and the result of the heat build up.

The rattling noise you now find your Dyson making is more than likely because your brushbar is buckled and when it spins the bristles are hitting the housing unit.

Your belt will snap again unless you replace the brushbar

DC07 grinding noise

I had the same problem with mine, I took it to a repair shop. The problem is where the belt passes through from the brush and goes inside the machine. Move the belt over a bit and you will see that a plastic guide has been bent over and is pressing onto the brush, which causes the noise. Just bend it straight again and it stops.

Dyson makes loud noise

Could be damage to Fan within motor or shaft on motor..Remove brush roll and run with nothing connected to motor ,if noise still appparent then sounds like one or the other if ok then check for damage to the brush roller.../Housing..good luck

How do I cange the belt on a DC07 ???? Not sure

You need to know which model of DC07 you've got. Some have a clutch (and two belts - motor to clutch, and clutch to brush roller) while others don't. Changing the belt on a clutchless model is simplicity itself. On a clutched model, you've got a challenge: the belts are an integral part of the clutch assembly, and normally the whole thing must be replaced. For excellent illustrated step-by-step guidance go to and good luck!

That is an indication that the belts are worn, stretched or broken. You simply need to replace the belt. Here is a link to the belt(s) you need and a manual you can view:
