Question about Zanussi Dryers

2 Answers

Dear Sirs I have a faulty Zanussi TDE4224W tumble drier that refuses to work. The power indicator light above the on/off button initially went very dim last night when powered up and the dryer wouldn’t run. After a few attempts to get it working the light eventually didn’t come on at all? I am generally not bad with straight forward electrical repairs but this one has me baffled. Could it be a faulty power capacitor or is it likely to be the main power board or other module. The unit is about 12 years old and otherwise in great condition, so it would be a great shame to throw it out if it is a relatively simple repair. Any ideas? Thanks and regards Adam

I'm not sure that this expert has really much experience of my machine. There is no internal fuse as suggested as a solution and pointing to a possible loose wire is an easy cop out.

Hello there
Here is some starting information for you to check i will post more if needed
Power from the house Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? If you plug something else into the outlet, does it work? If not, check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Door switch If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse (a heat-sensitive fuse that blows if the dryer overheats) mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse is about an inch long. It's usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing.

If the fuse has blown, it has no continuity. When this happens, your dryer either just stops heating, or it doesn't work at all. Be sure to inspect the venting/heating system before replacing the fuse to put the dryer back into operation. (You can't re-set this type of fuse.)
Wiring Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. In this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.

Hi, welcome to FixYa.

They are a very nice unit and built quite well also, I wouldn`t initially think it would be an issue that would neccesitate replacing the unit.

In fact it typically is simply an issue with a fuse blown or both fuses blown, but since the indicater did illuminate slightly, It certainly sounds like a fuse.

Have you checked the fuses ? They should be located at the back next to where the power cord exits the dryer, sometimes contained in a box, other times not.

I would also direct you to look for bad contacts/connections, sometimes wires will burn up at the ends due to moisture, resistance and other normal element`s during everyday use.

Let me know what you find and I`ll see if I can assist you further.

Good luck.

I have zanussi ZWH 6140 P WATER WONT DRAIN ERROR CODE 5 FLASHING RED LED LIGHTS?

First, always check carbon brushes on main motor especially if the appliance is in use for several years.

Five times the red alarm means a problem with the engine washing.
So, could be:

E51 - Motor power triac short-circuited.
Current leakage from motor or from wiring; Main PCB faulty
E52 - No signal from motor tachometric generator.
Wiring faulty; Motor faulty; Main circuit board faulty.
E53 - Motor triac sensing circuit faulty (wrong input voltage to
microprocessor). Main circuit board faulty.
E54 - Motor relay contacts sticking (high voltage level when
the relay switches to OFF).
Current leakage from motor or from wiring; Main PCB faulty;

Rapid reading last alarms:
Press the START/PAUSE button and the nearest option button simultaneously (4 and 6) for at least 2 seconds: the LEDs initially switch off, and then display the flashing sequence indicating the last alarm.

When dryer is switched on the red light (start/pause) button keeps bleeping and machine wont work

It seems that the program controller unit is faulty or has hung up . Remove the power and keep aside , check if the controller unit has any power issues.
If the unit does not reset the processor must be checked.check for short on the motor , check if the door switch is working.

I have a zwd12270w. Seven second after pressing

The problem is with the tumble drier heating element. If you remove the top of the machine (disconnect it from the electricity supply first!) you will find a big metal oblong "bar" that runs from the front to the rear of the machine. At the rear there are 4 white wires connected to the metal "bar". Make a note of where they go and remove them. You may need pliers to get a good grip of them. Once removed, the washing machine should work just fine but obviously the tumble drier will not. This is a well known fault and it may be worth contacting Zanussi as they MUST know about it!
