Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

This has been sitting and only powered up 3 months ago. A lighting strike hit and the TV powers up and I get aduio but no video. Is there a video cirect board I can replace to try to repair? I would hate to have to junk it. No repairs shops in my area (rural). Or maybe some kind of reset that may solve the problem? Any suggestions or ideas would be helpful.

Its a Philips 27 inch flat screen TV, Model #27PT543S37A. It was a gift and has been sitting up until 3 months ago and powered up for the first time. It was on a surge device which is still working, I believe the problem came throught the connection with the Direct TV receiver. I just had their repair man out here and he replaced the LBN's and the splitters and a booster power supply.

I will open up the TV and look as you suggested, if the above info changes anything or suggests other solutions please advise.

Unfortunately you have not told me the make/model of the set.
To go back any lightening strike has a very bad effect specially on a TV since it is too prone to heavy damage due to the cable/antennae input and the power line. So a surge in either line can have a high level of damage. Since you mentioned that Audio is present there is some hope but it would be good to have a LOOK at the main board. Open set after disconnection and check on the board with a good powerful lamp. If you notice different areas of line burns/solder tracks open/components burned, then it would be better to order the boards. If a physical check show only a regulator/line fusible resistor faulty then you are lucky. If not, Call up the nearest service centre after checking the web for the details , ask if the board could be sent up for serrvice and if bad a replacement could be sent back. If so courier your PCB after making notes of the connections so that you can do the job by yourself to fit back.
I sincerely advice you to decide. Good day

The voltage have come in through the input and could have damaged the Y amp processing section, it can be one component or numerous, as the semiconductor junctions gets punctured in a flash. Hope you get lucky . please give your votes?

Probable power supply fault now. Maybe if you replaced the power board it might work again.

I replaced the power board with one from shop jimmy but still get no power/stand-by light at all. i can heard a very quiet rhythmic clicking from what sound like the power board.

The power surge may have affected components other than those on the power board. Check for burned components and signs of scorching or breakage.

Power light just keeps blinking and T V will not turn on

Purchased just a month ago? It should still be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Unless the seller isn't a legitimate retailer. Try warranty repair before worrying about fixing it yourself.
