Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have just replaced our operating F & P 510 litre frost free fridge, and decided to use it as a second fridge. It was put outside on our deck (out of the weather) and worked for about ane week. It seems to have now packed it in.Is the increased humidity (being outside) a factor in this sudden dying or sould it be some other factors? Regards Alex Spanevello

Increased humidity can cause rusting but cant kill a fridge. May be that the shifting caused some wire to weaken and then break as it could not take the load. Or the gas leaked out. Does it come on and not cool or it does not come on at all. If earlier then the compressor has gone and needs to be done up while if the latter then wiring has gone and needs to be replaced.

I have a beko frost free fridge freezer its only 18 months old and Ive got a build up of ice in the fridge. all my food is getting frozen and Ive got my temp dial down to min .cant understand what cou

Is the door seal working correctly? If the door has become distorted slightly it might be letting in moisture via a gap in the door seal which will result in the build up in ice.

If you can see ice build up leading from the door area, this will give you a clue to where the seal may be faulty. Check that the door is squared up to the freezer with a spirit level and if required gently bend the door back into place by holding the corner with your feet and adjust from the other corner.

Refrigerator & Frrezer doesn't cool properly

Top of Form

If there is no cooling at all , before we go further we must confirm the first step of confirming the compressor and gas pressure. So shut off the fridge and leave it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge. If there is no ice formation we have a big issue as the compressor and gas must be checked out. If compressor is running check the pressure, get help to test gas pressure. If not you will need to fill up ,If gas pressure is good the possibility of the compressor being inefficient is high. In such a case you must take consensus to estimate and decide, if RPM of motor is low check capacitor.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test from the outside and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Hi,

Normally when frost build up occurs it's because warmer outside air is getting into the freezer and the moisture from that warm air cools and condensates then freezes into frost or ice. You either have a bad seal like the other listing states try leveling the front a little higher than the back. Or you may have an issue with the defrost heater, thermostat or timer. Do you have a light that comes on from time to time? If so you have an auto defrost unit. If there is no light you may not have a frost free freezer which means you will have to remove the frost manually.

Frost build up in a frost free freezer

It could be the door gasket. It could also be that the fridge needs a good defrosting. (especially if it is an older fridge)

When I bought my house I had the same problem with the fridge that came with the house. I assumed the previous owner had been defrosting it regularly, which he had not.

Eventually I decided to try a full defrost, and my fridge now works like new.
