Question about Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine

1 Answer

My machine has not been used for a few months and now the knob for the steamer is stuck and I cannot seem to turn it easily. I am afraid to use too much pressure for fear that I will break it. Is there any solution to this?

All you have are scale deposit around the steam pole of steam valve. So you can proceed with descale as follows
http://www.fixya.com/support/r4335301-descaling_espresso_machines_never_use

I sugest to do a couple of times this week and is slow steps so the solution have time to sesolve the scale build up in your machine not only the valve but other places also.
If you dont succeed then you will need to sesasemble the machine and manual clean the scale with a wire brush but you have 50% chance to avoid the second procedure.

I have a Francis Francis x1 machine, but when i want to make an espresso shot, and turns on the espresso button, the steamer spour out boiling water (not steam, and not while turned on). Does anyone k

Don't know how your controls are set, but you have two switches on the front and a knob on the right. The switch for the steamer (the right hand switch) should be off. The knob on the right should be turned clockwise to turn in off. Then no water or steam should come out of the steamer wand. If it does, the seal on the knob inside the machine is broken. It can be repaired but only if you're handy with a screwdriver (make sure if you take it apart you disconnect it from the mains).

The temperature knob on our ZWF14170W washing machine is stuck on 90C. My wife only turned it round to clean the knob and now it is stuck fast. I have tried to turn it back but am afraid of breaking it off...

There is a clip on your timer know in behind the knob itself. You got it miss align when your put it back and there is nothing there to hold in place.

Progam gets stuck mid cycle like any were in the wash cycle

I had this problem with a washer a few months ago. I believe it has something to do with the timer. Not too sure about this washer, if knobs are electric or not.. If it makes a clicking noise where the knob panel is it probably can be fixed fairly easily.

Also another problem that happens is the door switch. These two problems are the main ones for washers that continue to work but have problems in the cycle.

Starbucks Sirena. lights blink, won't heat.

johnshami had this solution on another post, and it worked for us:
  1. make sure the water in the tank is stone cold -- which is a no brainer since it will not heat h2o unless it's primed.
  2. take off steamer wand cover, turn the steamer knob clockwise till pump starts.
  3. then s*ck (as you would on a straw, with your lips sealed around the end of the steamer wand) the tip of the end of the metal tip hard until pump stops
  4. may need to do it a couple of times. yes this seems crazy, but it works! you are flushing out the vapor lock in the pump.

Can't Prime Water Circuit

Hi You need to switch Steam ON so it heats up and then turn Steam button OFF (no light) and then turn steamer knob counter clockwise you will hear the pump start up and then water will stream out. This is when it's primed. Turn steamer clock wise to close. You must do this everytime you use the steamer.

Try opening the frothing valve by turning the dial and force water through it instead of steam by pressing the middle, coffee button. You may be experiencing vapor lock. Once the water comes through the steamer valve, turn the steamer knob off and release the coffee button. Then try the steamer button with the steamer dial open. This may do the trick.
